Recruiting Roundup: Week of 11/12

By: Gavin Smith
Area Scout

Today, we’ll address all the Illinois prospects who made the decision to announce their commitment throughout this past week. We wrapped up our final showcase of 2023 in October, so as we head into the fall and winter offseason, now’s the time when recruiting season picks up. This past week was a busy one for commitments, so let’s begin.

Note: Player's are listed in alphabetical order by last name.

Konner Allen RHP / Pittsfield , IL / 2024

JOHN WOOD CC COMMIT

From 6/13/23: “...stands at 6-foot-3, 195-pounds, worked the strike zone with all four of his pitches, featuring both a fastball and sinker that each, respectively, reached 19+ inches of horizontal movement, with the former moving as much as 21.3 inches horizontally, per TrackMan. Allen landed a tighter-shape slider at 71-74 mph and he created some natural run on his changeup at 73-74 mph, too.”

Noah Arnold RHP / 2B / Harrisburg , IL / 2024

SOUTHEASTERN ILLINOIS JC COMMIT

From 5/25/23: “Athletic 5-foot-8, 155-pound frame. Started on the mound for the Bulldogs, tossing 6 1/3 innings, and allowing just an earned run. Subtle drop/drive delivery, on his backside to front footstrike, stays closed off from target throughout. Long arm swing finishes out of a high ¾ slot. Fastball played in the low-80s, touching 83 mph in the first, and consistently played around the zone. Effectively kept hitters off balance with a 65-68 mph curveball, big bend and shape, gradual action off an 11/5 plane. Was the Bulldogs top arm this spring, fanning 82 over 65 1/2 innings on the hill, pitching to a 0.75 ERA.”

Matthew Carrano C / C / St. Laurence , IL / 2024

PARKLAND COLLEGE COMMIT

From 8/21/22: “...is a 6-foot-1, 215-pound, right-handed hitter who creates leverage and lift to the pull-side of the diamond with some jump off the barrel. The swing has some length with strong, physical hands and some noteworthy measurables to-boot; 336’ max batted ball distance, T91.6 mph exit velocity and 70% sweet-spot percentage. Defensively showcased behind the plate and on the infield. He has a fundamentally sound approach from both areas of the field, clean footwork and plays quick out of the crouch at times. Soft hands, repeatable mechanics and throws played true. 2.11 low pop time, 70 mph from the crouch and 76 across the infield.”

Samuel Castillo RHP / OF / Kenwood Academy High School, IL / 2024

JOHN A. LOGAN COMMIT

Robert Drake OF / Riverside Brookfield, IL / 2024

ELMHURST UNIVERSITY COMMIT

Johnny Dwyer 2B / SS / Lincoln-Way East, IL / 2024

LORAS COLLEGE COMMIT

From 10/1/23: “Dwyer has an upright, relaxed look in the box, easy balanced swing and used the whole field during BP. Dwyer stays within himself, controls the barrel and registered a max exit velocity of 84.5 mph.”

Jace Easley 2B / SS / Glenwood, IL / 2024

ILLINOIS CENTRAL COLLEGE COMMIT

Dylan Feldkamp RHP / 3B / Antioch, IL / 2024

HEARTLAND CC COMMIT

From 2/4/23: “Feldkamp was also responsible for a quality two-way performance during our time at Puma Baseball Academy. Listed at a long and projectable 6-foot-2, 193-pounds Feldkamp started his day with a quality round of BP, setting up with rhythm and creates separation to lift the ball up-the-middle and to the pull-side, topping at 93.5 mph on his hardest hit ball. On the mound, Feldkamp features clean repeatable mechanics and from his ¾ slot, he ran his fastball up to 84 mph, with not a single pitch dipping below 83 mph. For his offspeeds, Feldkamp spun in a big 11/5 breaking ball that has some swing-and-miss potential and he also spun in a slider with big horizontal movement that plays well off of his fastball.”

Luca Fiore LHP / OF / Nazareth, IL / 2024

ILLINOIS-CHICAGO COMMIT

From 10/1/23: "...no stranger to our staff, continues to show above-average stuff and spin on the mound. The top uncommitted left-handed pitcher in the state sat comfortably in the mid-80s with all kinds of horizontal movement and an average of 2108 rpm. Fiore separates himself thanks to his low-70s breaking ball that spins at an average of 2405 rpm with feel and sweeping, horizontal action. Fiore rounded out his above-average three-pitch mix with a changeup thrown with arm speed, fade and sink action and feel at the bottom of the zone."

Lucas also flashed above-average raw power, elevating his furthest ball 346 feet, per TrackMan. He showed arm strength on the infield too, firing an 87 mph high across the diamond on his firmest bullet."

Cooper Marrs OF / RHP / Riverside-Brookfield, IL / 2024

DENISON UNIVERSITY COMMIT

From 8/8/23: “Marrs, who stands at 6-foot-4, 195-pounds, repeated hard line drive contact into the pull-side gap in BP on average (92 mph) and at peak (97.4 mph) from a loose, easy right-handed swing. WESTERN ILLINOIS COMMIT

From 8/8/23: "...continues to look the part of a future asset in the middle of the field. Perez carries one of the more advanced gloves in the class, providing noticeably productive defense on the dirt with the likelihood being he sticks up the middle long term. His arm, alongside his glove, is advanced too, and Perez was 88 mph across the diamond on his hardest bullet. Offensively, Perez swings a simple, athletic right-handed barrel that flashed above-average raw power with wood, reaching peak exit velocities upwards of 95 mph while also elevating his furthest batted ball 347 feet, per TrackMan. Heading into the final year of his prep career, Perez looks the part of a pro follow that should draw attention throughout the fall, as well as into the spring."
