Florida 2024 Rankings: Fall Update

After a busy fall in the Sunshine State, baseball is slowing down as we head into the off-season. The 2024 class has just come off the most important fall of their high school careers and are now gearing up for their senior high school season.

With that said, it is time to once again update our class of 2024 rankings before the off-season. Check out our newest update featuring movement in the top ten, newcomers, and risers.

Noah Franco OF / LHP / IMG Academy, FL / 2024

Prep Baseball All-American Game: Franco works out of a wide, square base with some fluctuations in stride, mixing a small leg trigger in at times. Steep swing path creates natural loft with above-average bat speed behind it that creates solid pull-side power when timed up. Broad shouldered, Projectable 6-foot-3, 190-pound frame will continue to fill out, and could lead to even more power potential. Good barrel control and plate coverage, especially from the swing path that will show above-average bat-to-ball skills. Athleticism to play throughout the outfield but has the chance for a plus glove at first base with excellent flexibility and soft hands.

Johnny King LHP / Naples, FL / 2024

Fall 2023: Another two-way collegiate prospect, King unorthodox delivery features the ever-coveted low release height and higher slot which allows him to procure a significant number of whiffs. After a deep postseason run that saw him rack up lots of innings throughout the spring, King’s velocity never made the “summer jump”, but it hardly held him back from showcasing a quick left arm that holds real feel for spin. The 6-foot-4, 190-pounder who will not turn 18 until after the draft held his steady low 90s throughout the summer while showcasing innate feel for a vicious curveball that rips off with nearly 3000 rpm. A dynamic athlete whose full attention on the mound might yield major returns in coming years, there is some similarity to 2022 LHP Paul Wilson (3rd round, Tigers) although with much better feel for the breaking ball.

Myles Bailey 1B / 3B / Lincoln , FL / 2024

NPI 2023: Simply put, there wasn’t a player in Emerson who had a louder week than Myles Bailey. Hitting .500 with three home runs and eight RBI over 5 games, and while the counting stats are impressive, it’s the prestigious power he produced to achieve those results that really turned heads. Bailey had exit velocities of 103.8 (oppo), 105.5 (HR), 110 (HR) along with multiple BBEs of 95+ over the week. It’s without question some of the best raw power in the entire 2024 class. Utilizing a wide base and pre-pitch bag wiggle, the Florida State commit presents a short, compact left-handed swing with above-average bat speed and present barrel whip throughout the zone. Ability to drive the ball to all-fields with ease was evident and did damage against spin and velo alike. Very physical frame at 6-foot-4, 220lbs that continues to improve with some sneaky athleticism gives Bailey a chance at 3B, but the bat is potent enough for a 1B profile with higher defensive potential. After a fantastic spring season with 10 HR and a 1.454 OPS, this was just the type of performance to jump-start an even better summer and start his ascend up draft boards.

Ty Head OF / LHP / Windermere , FL / 2024

East Coast Pro: NC State commit Ty Head (Windermere HS, FL) just had one knock to show for it, but he opened some eyes (and ears) with his aggressive swing and loud contact. A confident hitter, he’s up there to do damage and barrels he did find; a line-out to center field at a 96 mph EV, line-out to shortstop at 93, and a double to right field registered at 99. He stood out among all hitters after the first two games.

Schuyler Sandford RHP / RHP / St. Johns Country Day, FL / 2024

East Coast Pro: The 6-foot-6, 205-pound right-hander worked with a slower-paced, yet athletic and on-line delivery. A Florida recruit, he could be next in a long line of Gator aces and Day One draft picks that have come out of Gainesville. He worked left-handed batters with two-seamer at 92-94 (1850-1900 rpm) to his arm side, while attacking same-sided batters with a higher spin (2300-2450) four-seamer that he pumped up to 95. Although Schuyler didn’t land it for a strike very often, he threw his slider with very good intent. It had cutter action at 79-82 mph with a spin rate up to 2775 rpm. He also mixed in what looked like a true cutter at 87 mph, spinning at 2450.

Hunter Carns C / OF / First Coast, FL / 2024

Prep Baseball All-American Game: Operating out of an open, shoulder width base, Carns utilizes a quick trigger into a deeper wide base pre-pitch that incorporates the lower half well while keeping the hands back into hitting position. Above-average bat speed with loose hands and top-of-the-class rotational acceleration allow the barrel to explode through the zone on-plane with present plus raw power and ability to tap into in-game as well. Athletic out of the crouch with a staggered base. Pop times range from 1.93-1.96 with a slightly above-average arm with accuracy. Potential to play throughout the outfield with excellent range and tracking. Impressive run tool with a 6.64 60 yard dash that has steadily improved throughout the year, and could be trending toward a near plus tool.

Fabio Peralta OF / Miami Christian, FL / 2024

PDP 2023: Peralta was on the barrel from his first swing, and was relentless in delivering firm contact with each stroke. A fluid athlete whose frame projects as much as any player at the event, the 6-foot-2, 178-pound, wiry-athletic left-handed hitter rocked the hands into a power position before pulling a strong bottom hand through the zone with a flat path that created length through the zone in covering the plate with some authority to all fields. Any belief that Peralta might only spray light line drives was quickly erased as he showcased some pull side power throughout, and looked the part of a must-watch the rest of the week.

Dylan Jordan RHP / RHP / Viera, FL / 2024

East Coast Pro: Seminole recruit Dylan Jordan (Viera HS, FL) was next for the Braves. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound right-hander worked with a longer arm path to a three-quarter release point. On this look there was more control than command of his pitches, but his slider was especially effective and deceptive coming out of the exact same window as his 92-93 mph sinking fastball. Although inconsistent with landing the pitch, it was a buckler at times in the low-80s and looks to be an above average to better pitch in the future.

Devin Fitz-Gerald SS / RHP / Stoneman Douglas, FL / 2024

East Coast Pro: Fitz-Gerald had himself a big 2023 summer and fall circuit. Added size to his frame has helped increase his stock as a prospect. Switch hitter with above average bat speed and power potential from both sides. Doubled and ran a 6.85 at East Coast Pro.

Chase Mobley RHP / OF / Durant, FL / 2024

East Coast Pro: Six-foot-5 Chase Mobley (Durant HS, FL; Florida State) entered next for the Braves and powered mid-90s fastballs to the plate, touching 96. The right-hander worked with high effort and an inverted L arm action. It’s a quick arm and reliever look, but the same was said about Tanner Houck (Boston Red Sox) as a prep. He attacked mainly with his fastball, but also went to a 72-76 mph curve (2300-2400) and 84-85 changeup (1700 rpm) on occasion.
