Nevada comes up just short in a back and forth battles with a talented Missouri/Kansas group. After bringing across three runs in the top of the first, MOKAN answered with four runs of their own to take the lead back. 2024 LHP/OF, Evan Festa, bounced back after a lengthy first inning going 4.1 innings total, pounding the zone and allowing his defense to work with his fastball sitting in the low 70’s. After a solid outing from Festa, 2025 IF/RHP, Tate Southisene, came in to get out of a jam, going 1.2 innings total. The game was back and forth with both teams capitalizing on opportunities and ultimately lead into a second and third, two out, down by two situation with an opportunity to tie the game in the seventh and ended up with Nevada striking out to end the game with a total of eleven runners left on base. Nevada racked up nine hits total in the game with timely hitting coming from 2025’s, Ethan Clauss, Bradlee Farrer and Tate Southisene, and 2024, Connor Apeceche. A huge difference in the play for Team Nevada in the second game with players continuing to gain some comfort and confidence in their game. 

Ethan Clauss, 2025 MIF

The 2025 infielder brought in two of the team’s five runs, earning his first hit of the Junior Future Games after walking in his first three at-bats of the event. Clauss put on an impressive round of batting practice at yesterday’s workout and carried into his at-bats today, showing exceptional plate discipline with three walks in three of his five total plate appearances. His possesses above average at the plate for his age and compliment them with confident actions in the infield. 

Connor Apeceche, 2024 C/IF

The Game 2 backstop proved why he is one of the top incoming catchers in the state with zero pass ball and 33% throw out rate on attempted steals today. His ability to receive made the difference in borderline pitches throughout the game and his athleticism kept runners from advancing on pass balls. At the plate, he came up with a clutch single through the six hole late in the game bringing in a run to shorten the MOKAN lead to one. In his final at-bat of the day, he came up with runners on second and third in the top of the seventh and barreled a ball up to centerfield that hung up in the air and was tracked down by centerfielder. 

Evan Festa, 2024 LHP/OF

Evan Festa had the standout performance of Game 2 for Team Nevada. He battled through 4.1 innings of work against on of the top teams at the event after a first inning that saw four runs cross the plate with only three of them being earned, then flipped the switch and kept hitters off balance, moving the ball in and out to make the MOKAN hitters earn anything they got. Coming off the field in the fifth inning, Festa received an ovation from both teams for his efforts. Festa topped out at 72 mph with some arm side action on his fastball and had more tumbling action on his breaking ball coming out at high 3/4 arm slot.
