Canfield High School, located near Youngstown, put together an impressive 2012 campaign, which included a 20-6 record, a second place finish in the All-American Conference, and a runner up finish in the regional finals.

Now, with only one returning starter and two returning pitchers, Coach Koenig will turn to several new players as he fills out his lineup card. In particular, Canfield will be replacing its’ entire infield. For now, the Cardinals strength lies in their overall athleticism and pitching staff.

Canfield will likely find itself battling for a conference title against Austintown Fitch HS, Howland HS, and Poland HS.

Class of 2013

  • OF Derek Turocy – The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Lake Erie recruit will play a prominent role in the Cardinals outfield while hitting in the middle of the order.
  • 1B/LHP Tony Velasquez – The 6-foot-1, 175-pound southpaw will be counted on as one of the main pitchers on the Cardinal staff.

Class of 2014

  • SS/RHP Edmond Pilolli – The 6-foot, 175-pound two-way prospect has all of the tools to play at the next level with a smooth swing from the left side and a mid 80’s fastball on the mound.
  • 1B/3B/RHP Jim Leone – The 6-foot-3, 200-pound prospect has a versatile skill set that will be counted on by Coach Koenig.
  • OF/3B/RHP Colton Crissman – The 6-foot-2, 185-pound junior is extremely athletic and figures to be a spark plug in the Cardinal offense.
  • 3B/RHP Alec Buchenic – The 5-foot-11, 210-pound righty was regarded as one of the top pitchers on the Cardinal staff as a sophomore last season.

Class of 2015

  • 3B/C/RHP Kyle Kovach – The 5-foot-10, 180-pound prospect is a leader in his class and hard worker that could find his way into the Canfield lineup.
