2024 Ohio Preseason Team Power Rankings
The 2024 season is my 14th season with Prep Baseball Ohio and as with each of the previous 13 years, I can't ask for a better job. Yeah the weather could be better in March and April, crossing fingers to have pleasant weather this season, but seeing these kids battle through the conditions that Ohio brings is great.
As the 2024 spring season gets underway, Prep Baseball Ohio would like to bring to you the first installment of the Team Power Rankings. Every Tuesday of each week we will bring you an updated Team Power Rankings.
The Prep Baseball Ohio rankings are based on recommendations from coaches, scouts and members of the media as well as watching players at numerous events/games throughout the year. If you know a team that you feel should be in consideration for the rankings, please let us know by emailing [email protected]
We look to bring top-notch high school coverage throughout the year for the Buckeye state.

Our senior class boasts remarkable achievements, including clinching a DII State Title, finishing as runners-up in the state, and securing the school's first D1 District title. The bar is set high as we enter the upcoming season, building on the momentum from last year's Regional Semifinal loss. On the pitching front, we're fortunate to welcome back 3 out of 4 key pitchers from the previous season, each with significant experience in high-stakes high school baseball games. Their expertise will be pivotal as we navigate a challenging regular season schedule. Offensively, our lineup returns of 7 out of 9 starters from last season. Additionally, we have some promising young talent vying for playing time this spring. The dedication and hard work put in during the offseason have positioned us for success, and we eagerly anticipate the competitive season ahead in 2024." |

The offense is led by 3 four year starters in Carter Mottice (BGSU), Wyatt Fether (Clarion), Eric Freetage (2x 2nd Team All Fed) & a host of returning starters. The 2024 Polar Bears will rely on an expirenced pitching staff and roster as they navigate a demanding non-league schedule and the very competitive Federal League." |

We also return 4 quality arms from last year, including OCC Player of the Year and First Team All-District Pitcher Kyle Haag. Parker McDaniel's has been our starting catcher since his freshman year and his experience is invaluable. We will be relying on a few talented Juniors this year to replace a few keys spots lost to graduation and injury but we are excited about their development and looking forward to seeing them compete." |

Coaches Outlook"It's tough to gauge what a season will be when you're competing against familiar faces inside the walls of your own facilities. However, I do like the maturity of the group and there is some comfort in knowing that we return a lot of guys that had the opportunity to grow through the experiences of a deep run in 2023. The key, much like it is any year, is how we respond to a very tough and demanding schedule and how we gel as a unit on our annual spring trip. If we can approach those two main things with maturity and we master the idea of failure recovery, we have a shot." |

I believe we have an extremely talented group but they're unproven. This season's success, from a win/loss standpoint, will largely depend on how we mature and come together as a team. If we can compete in adverse situations and learn to win 1 or 2 run ballgames, this team could be very good." |

Coaches Outlook"We return 184 innings pitched from our 2023 Regional Championship team. We graduated nine players and return just three seniors and three juniors from the 2023 team. Going into the season, we have a lot of things to figure out, but our young guys are working hard and competing to round out our lineup. Our schedule is easily the strongest it's been in my time at CJ. I'm hopeful that we will be battle tested and that our young team will be playing their best ball late in the season." |

Coaches Outlook"Every year is interesting at the beginning as we start to figure out who will take over open positions from graduated senior starters. This is a special year as we are coming off of a State Championship at the Div. 2 level. The program will have to deal with many challenges that were not previously faced such as complacency and an overall drive to return to the top. While the challenge is high, it will be exciting to watch our new Seniors step into even larger leadership roles and guide some of the younger players through the trials and tribulations that come along with a tough Spring season. Our schedule is packed with previous state and poll champions from the past few years. This combined with one of the best baseball conferences in the State will hopefully help us prepare and get in the swing of things for the 2024 tournament. Looking forward to another fun year." |

If we are detail oriented, take all our reps at game speed, and play for each other this team could be dangerous." |

We will have some holes to fill but I love the way our guys compete with each other and push their teammates to be better. It makes the program stronger as a whole. We have again created a challenging regular season schedule, which includes last years DII and DIII state champions and several teams that reached the regionals." |
