Division II Team Of The Week: Week 4 - Sheridan

THORNVILLE - Fourteen consecutive wins to begin the season, including a seven-win week that featured a pair of 10-inning victories, brings recognition to Sheridan as the Prep Baseball Division II Team of the Week.

“Starting the season 14-0 has been a little bit of a surprise, mainly because it is hard to win 14 straight games, especially in baseball, and especially when your schedule gets backed up due to weather/cancellations and you end up playing four, five or six consecutive days,” noted head coach Doug Fisher, whose Generals suffered their first defeat of the season on Monday.

Admittedly, expectations were very high for Fisher and company entering the 2024 campaign.

“We returned a good nucleus from last year's team that went 23-5,” pointed out the Sheridan mentor.

Senior Bryson Ruff and junior Brody White have led the way on the mound as the 1-2 pitching punch for the fourth-ranked team in Ohio in Division II, which last week defeated Philo 12-2 and 8-1, John Glenn 5-4 (10 innings), West Muskingum 12-2, Meadowbrook 2-1 and Licking Heights 5-4 (10 innings) and 13-3.

Pitching help also comes from Caden Sheridan, a first team all-Ohioan as a junior who is catcher and closer for the team.

“Caden has been our most productive hitter this year,” Fisher said about the fourth-rated senior catcher in Ohio, a Morehead State commit who has three home runs to date.

The Generals are currently in second place in the Muskingum Valley League Big School Division, a half-game behind Tri-Valley.

“The keys to our continued success is just staying consistent,” Fisher said. “Keep doing things that give us opportunities to win … pitchers throwing strikes, timely hitting and not making errors in the field.”
