The 2024 Georgia high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Georgia.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in mid-May inside one of Coolray Field, AdventHealth Stadium, or JI Clements Stadium at Georgia Southern University. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Georgia. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 25 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 25 rankings.

TEAM OUTLOOK

After putting together 28 wins in 2023 that ended with just a short postseason run, Coach Jeremy Kemp and this Bears squad are chomping at the bit for an even better 2024. Top-to-bottom, Cherokee Bluff could have one of the best lineups in 4A. The Bears return five bats that all hit north of .350 last spring, led by the senior trio of SS Jacob Vokal (.402, 18 XBH), OF Ty Corbin (.387, 2 HR), and C/OF Caleb Miele (.378, 9 2B). OF KT Thompson looks to ride the momentum of a fresh Georgia Southern commitment, and improve on a strong sophomore campaign where he hit .368 with 8 doubles. Another junior, Landon Kemp returns after a .354 year where he was second on the team in RBI and will be tasked with an even bigger two-way role this spring where he could slot into the rotation. Two underclassmen will be extremely vital to the Bears success in 2024, starting with newcomer SS Bubba Coleman, who is an LSU commit and one of the best players in the class of 2026 as well as sophomore infielder Ethan England, who is coming off of a very strong freshman year where he hit .289 with 13 extra-base hits and will be looking for more this spring. A pair of committed junior arms in RHP Tucker Holton (ETSU) and Gabe Gowder (Georgia State) will likely fill out the rotation behind Vokal, and gives Cherokee Bluff plenty of experience on the mound with quality depth behind it. A name to watch this spring for the Bears is freshman RHP Bryce Fontenot. He’s been up to the low-90s as we ramp up for the spring and could end as a weapon for this ballclub. The Bears check a ton of boxes as a team who could make a deep run this spring, and will be hard to count out in Region 8-4A.
