The 2024 Texas high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Texas.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Austin at the UIL State Tournament in June, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 30 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

TEAM OUTLOOK

After making the playoffs in 2023, the B.F. Terry Rangers bring back another exciting young roster for 2024. Led by Coach Justin Gougler, the Rangers look to pick up where they left off last season after finishing as 5A Bi-District Finalists with the return of four players who were All-District in 2023.

The Rangers will be young in 2024, and headlining the returning group are a pair of juniors who earned All-District last year in INF Andrew Hernandez (uncommitted - Honorable Mention) and RHP/UTL Clayton Ohl (uncommitted - First Team). The rest of the young team will feature primarily sophomores and freshmen, and representing the returning sophomore class will be UTL/RHP Mathew Eben and C/OF Jayden Robertson. Eben was Second Team All-District last year, with Robertson earning Honorable Mention.

Projected to join the varsity squad in 2024 as freshmen are OF Tristin Cameron and UTL/RHP Aiden Lopez. These two, plus the sophomore class will aim to be building blocks for the Rangers’ program for the next few years.

The youth throughout the roster makes the Rangers a very intriguing team entering 2024. Look for the B.F. Terry squad to be a pesky team to beat within the state’s 5A class this season.
