Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Austin at the UIL State Tournament in June, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 30 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 30 rankings.

The Eaton Eagles and Coach Jeremy Fatheree bring back some mature arms on the pitching staff and a speedy roster overall for 2024. Eaton also returns three guys who earned All-District in 2023, with one of them coming by way of transfer.

On the mound, the Eagles return seniors RHP John Christner (Texas Tech), RHP/OF Braden Williams (Rose State), and CIF/RHP David Thompson (uncommitted). Christner is a sturdy 5-foot-11, 190-pounds, and is currently ranked No. 74 in the state. Last summer, Christner was running his fastball up to 92 mph (sat 87-91), while mixing in an upper 70’s breaker, and an upper 70’s changeup.

On the defensive side of things the Eagles appear to be locked and loaded for 2024, with a pair of Second Team All-District players from 2023 returning in 1B Colton Klapprodt (2024; Howard JC) and OF Nathan Tobin (2024; Texas A&M). Tobin is likely to be the table-setter for the Eagles’ lineup in 2024 with his advanced bat-to-ball skills and speed, making him the No. 47 ranked player in the state. Adding to the intrigue of the Eagles offense this season will be speedy transfer INF Dylon Myrow (2024; Midland JC) from Lewisville, who was First Team All-District in 2023 (6-6A). Another trio of seniors are back for Eaton in 2024 in OF/UTL Josh Mosley (Howard JC), INF Brayden McCallum (uncommitted), and OF Logan Byrd (uncommitted).

On the underclassmen side, the Eagles return sophomore CIF Griffin Bourland, who was a freshman standout in 2023 and will look to be a foundational piece of the program for the next few years. Another potential building block for Coach Fatheree’s program entering 2024 is freshman INF Tyler King, who will begin his high school career this spring.

The Eagles look to have the pieces to make the 6A postseason in 2024, when you factor in their veteran arms on the mound and versatility of their lineup.
