Prep Baseball Texas Staff

The 2024 Texas high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Texas.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Austin at the UIL State Tournament in June, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 30 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 30 rankings.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Clear Brook Wolverines and Coach Gene Flores look to make it consecutive years in the playoffs entering 2024 behind their returning pitching staff. Additionally, the Wolverines return three players among the junior class who earned All-District honors in 2023.

On the mound, the Wolverines bring back senior INF/RHP Jose Luccioni (uncommitted), junior RHP/INF Santiago Leija (2025; uncommitted) and junior UTL/RHP Logan Sariga. Leija was named to the District’s First Team in 2023, with Sariga earning Second Team honors last season. Sariga is a player our staff is familiar with, after showing well at the Houston Summer Open in June. At the event, Sariga ran a 6.95 60 at 6-foot-3, 186-pounds, and also threw an event-best 93 mph bullet from the outfield. The right-handed hitter was also on the barrel consistently at the event with a max EV of 91 mph. On the bump, Sariga sat in the low-80’s with his fastball (T84 mph) but we could see a jump in his velo this spring. Sariga rounds out his repertoire with a swing-and-miss slider in the mid-70’s and a curveball in the mid-60’s. Sariga is currently ranked No. 197 in the state, and could be an x-factor for the Wolverines in 2024 with his two-way abilities. Likely to be the battery mate for the arms listed above will be junior C/INF Trenton Flores (uncommitted). Flores had a standout season in 2023 as well, earning Second Team All-District, as he should be a solidifying piece for Clear Brook behind the dish entering 2024.

Potentially joining the varsity roster in 2024 is freshman RHP/UTL John Brooks. Being a two-way player, Brooks could factor in numerous spots for Coach Flores right away to begin his high school career.

Despite losing nine seniors off of the 2023 team, there is still a lot to like about the 2024 Clear Brook Wolverines and what they bring back. Look for them to remain in postseason contention throughout 2024.
