We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 30 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 30 rankings.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Lubbock Coronado Mustangs and Coach Brad Bibb bring back an experienced roster for the 2024 season. This experienced roster will feature five returning players who were All-District in 2023 from a team that nearly won 20 games.

Leading the 2024 squad will be senior LHP/1B Jared Owens, who recently signed to play college ball at New Mexico Highlands, and was First Team All-District last season. Another First Team All-District player returning for the Mustangs is senior RHP/UTL Eric Zapata (uncommitted). Two-way ability is going to be a common theme for this year’s Mustangs roster and junior RHP/INF Isaiah Vazquez (uncommitted) is no exception after earning Second Team All-District last year. The senior two-way duo of LHP/OF Caden Vasquez (uncommitted) and RHP/INF Cody Campos (uncommitted) are back for 2024 after receiving Honorable Mention All-District in 2023. C Bodie Pope (2025; uncommitted) and INF/OF Zarius Martinez (2025; uncommitted) are a pair of returning juniors to keep an eye on heading into 2024.

Three juniors are projected to join the Mustangs varsity squad this season in INF/OF Isaiah Trevino (uncommitted), C/INF Jaden Lira (uncommitted), and INF Phoenix Vera (uncommitted). Also projected to join the Mustangs in 2024 is sophomore RHP/UTL Zac Long, as he will look to be a foundational piece of the program for the next few years. Keep an eye on freshman RHP/INF Graham Hardin as a name to know within the 2027 class for the Mustangs as a potential instant impact player in 2024.

With their returning experience on the roster, look for the Mustangs to get into the 5A postseason in 2024 after just missing out last season.
