Kenosha Preseason I.D.: Infield Analysis

As we march towards the end of the week, we get closer to unveiling our top overall prospects from the Kenosha Preseason I.D., in the meantime we’ve ranked our top ten infielders from the event led off by Westosha Central’s Austin Glidden. Glidden showed above average to plus tools across the board on the infield and with the bat. Behind Glidden are several uncommitted prospects to keep and eye on this spring.

Here's a look at our top infielders:

Top Infield Prospects

1. Austin Glidden, RHP/INF, Westosha Central, 2019
6-foot-1, 160-pound two-way player, lean wiry athlete. Delivery repeats and works on time, in line, lands square. Arm action is loose and quick, high ¾ slot, throws everything with arm speed. Fastball has slight arm side run, control of the zone at 83-85 mph, Curveball is sharp with swing and miss type bite, aggressive arm speed, advanced feel, 72-73 mph. Changeup sinks, with feel, 77-81 mph. Plus arm strength across the infield, 91 mph. Plays through the baseball with long exchange, athletic and shows body control. Right-handed hitter, open stance, short stride, good balance. Loos athletic hands, line drive gap to gap type. 95 mph exit velocity from the tee. 4.26 runner down the line.

2. Tyler Swanson, INF, Burlington Catholic, 2020
5-foot-10, 180-pound infielder, strong sturdy build, added significant strength since last seeing him. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride, solid balance through contact. Loose and strong actions at the plate, hands work quickly to the baseball, long high finish. Produced hard contact, gap to gap type, well above average bat speed, 94 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is long and loose with some effort, high ¾ slot, creates carry, 86 mph across the diamond. Exchange can get long at times, plays through the baseball, occasionally with excess footwork, hands play. 4.37 runner home to first. 2020 follow.

3. Carlos Martinez, MIF/RHP, Grant (IL), 2019
5-foot-6, 145-pound middle infielder. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride, average balance. Short compact swing showed bat speed, line drive gap to gap guy. 84 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively showed smooth actions with soft hands, fluid feet play through the baseball, second base profile, natural actions. Arm action is short and loose, high ¾ slot, 82 mph across the diamond. 4.57 runner down the line. On the mound arm action is loose, ¾ slot. Fastball topped at 79 mph, 76-78 mph range, control with run and sink. Curveball has 11/5 shape, 71-73 mph with feel. Changeup fades to arm side, control at 70-71 mph.

4. Reese Dutton, INF/RHP, Tremper, 2019
6-foot-1, 155-pound two-way player, lean frame. Right-handed hitter, slightly open stance, short stride, tall through contact with solid balance. Path is short, average bat speed, 81 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively showed arm strength across the diamond, quick high ¾ slot and accurate, athletic arm action, carried at 86 mph. Plays through the baseball, clean exchange, soft hands. 4.69 runner down the line. On the mound works slightly across the diamond, smooth rhythm, uses slide step in the stretch. Quick loose arm, high ¾ slot. Fastball has slight sinking action, control, 81-82 mph, touched 83 mph. Curveball thrown aggressively at 71-75 mph, 12/6 action. Slight sinking change, 73-76 mph.

5. Bradley Novak, INF, Wheaton Warrenville South (IL), 2019
6-foot, 195-pound infielder, stocky build some strength. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride. Bat strength, quick swing, uphill path with bat speed, gap to gap contact, occasional pull side tendencies. 77 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively profiles at third base, showed body control, clean exchange average hands. Arm plays short from a high ¾ slot, played accurate, 82 mph across the diamond.

6. Simon Dembiec, INF, Lake Country Lutheran, 2019
6-foot-3, 220-pound infielder, large frame and strong build. Defensively showed raw arm strength across the diamond, 85 mph, carries from long high ¾ arm action. Exchange is long, average hands, corner infield profile. 4.65 runner down the line. Right-handed hitter, open stance, leg lift stride, loads hands back, average balance. Shows strength at the plate, path works uphill, pull side contact, shoulder swing. 99 mph exit velocity from the tee.

7. Riley Dutton, INF/RHP, Tremper, 2021
5-foot-5, 120-pound two-way player, small athletic type, projects best on the infield. Defensively showed above average actions for his age, natural defender with soft hands, plays through the baseball. Arm action is long, high ¾ slot, athletic release on the move, 71 mph across the infield. Right-handed hitter, balanced setup, short stride, maintains balance through contact. Spray contact type hitter, line drive approach, hits in rhythm, 71 mph exit velocity from the tee. On the mound fastball runs at 69-71 mph. Curveball shows feel and spin, 59-62 mph, 11/5 shape. Changeup is 63-65 mph.

8. Joel Grunert, LHP/1B, Oak Creek, 2019
5-foot-11, 193-pound, left-handed throwing two-way player. On the mound delivery is tall and falls to target, regular effort, stays level and finishes balanced. Loose arm action slight wrap on back side, high ¾ slot. Fastball slightly runs to arm side, creates angle and shows feel for the zone, 78-79 mph, topped at 80 mph. Curveball has 1/7 shape, 67-69 mph, loose at times. Changeup sinks, feel for pitch, 67-70 mph. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride, good balance. Loose hands, stays on top of the baseball, level path. 89 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively showed natural feel around the bag, soft hands and plays through the baseball. 76 mph across the diamond. 5.01 runner in the 60.

9. Jason Brulport, 1B/LHP, Tremper, 2020
6-foot, 210-pound, left/left two-way player. Hits from an open stance, loads hands lower with slight barrel tip, swinging leg lift trigger. Hits with rhythm, pull side approach, looks to lift, long uphill path. 82 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is loose and athletic, hands work around the bag, 78 mph across the diamond. 4.76 runner home to first. On the mound arm works similarly. Fastball has slight arm side run, 75-76 mph. Curveball works gradually on 1.7 plane, 62-65 mph. Changeup sits 68-71 mph.

10. Logan Pye, INF, Wilmot Union, 2020
5-foot-9, 155-pound infielder, solid frame and build. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, loads hands back, short stride, solid balance through contact. Occasional hard contact, line drive type, level path. 88 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is short and loose, over the top slot, flashed carry, 76 mph. Plays through the baseball showing above average actions for his age. 4.51 runner home to first.

Carson Barwick, INF/RHP, Waterford, 2019
6-foot-3, 175-pound two-way player, lean gangly frame. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride, average balance. Path is long and level, occasionally works around the baseball creating pull side contact. 72 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is long, high ¾ slot, 76 mph across the diamond. Average hands, gangly actions. On the mound arm action is long from a high ¾ slot. Fastball is mostly straight, 75-77 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape, fastball arm speed, 67-72 mph. Straight changeup, 70-72 mph.

Tyler Bellmore, INF, Bradford, 2020
5-foot-5, 135-pound infielder, small body type, second base profile. Defensively played through the baseball, showed ability to play on the move, exchange is clean. Arm action is long, high ¾ slot, 77 mph across the diamond. 4.95 runner home to first. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride, average balance. Path is long, uphill plane, 75 mph exit velocity from the tee.

Boyd Biggs, 1B/RHP, Waterford, 2019
6-foot-2, 220-pound two-way player. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, smooth load, leg kick stride. Long uphill path, shows bat strength, pull side power approach. 90 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is long, high ¾ slot, 78 mph across. Clean exchange, average hands. 5.14 runner home to first. On the mound arm plays similar, fastball sat 75-77 mph, mostly straight. Curveball has gradual 11/5 shape, 67-70 mph.

Nick Cairo, RHP/INF, Bradford, 2020
6-foot-2, 217-pound two-way player, strong build for age. On the mound works from an over the top slot, regular effort, shows arm speed and looks to work downhill. Fastball feels heavy, control of the zone, topped at 83 mph, sat 80-82 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape, sharp action, thrown with feel and confidence, 66-68 mph. Changeup fades to arm side, 73-75 mph, thrown with arm speed. Right-handed hitter, open setup, slight leg kick, average balance. Pull side power approach, uphill path, some topspin contact. 87 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively played through the baseball at times with clean transfer. Arm is short and loose, 73 mph across. 4.62 runner home to first.

Austin Card, INF, Indian Trail, 2019
5-foot-7, 170-pound right-handed hitting infielder, thick body type with strength. Hits from balanced stance, short stride, average balance. Bat strength present, path has length, level to uphill plane. 83 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action works short from a high ¾ slot, 78 mph across. Confident hands, exchange is clean, third base profile. Gets down the line at 4.75.

Logan Foote, INF, Lakes (IL), 2021
6-foot-1, 150-pound, infielder, lean build. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, loads hands back, short stride. Path is long and works uphill, 68 mph exit velocity form the tee. Defensively arm action is long, high ¾ slot, 62 mph across the diamond. 4.94 runner down the line.

Noah France, INF/RHP, Union Grove, 2021
5-foot-5, 125-pound two-way player. On the mound showed feel for three pitches, long arm action, ¾ slot. Fastball has control, arm side run and sink, 73-74 mph. Slider is 65-66 mph, drops for strikes, 10/4 shape. Changeup fades slightly to arm side, in the zone, 69-70 mph . Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, leg kick stride. Path is short, repeats, 70 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is long high ¾ slot, 72 mph across the diamond. 4.86 runner down the line.

Jake Garncarz, INF, Grafton, 2019
5-foot-10, 140-pound infielder, shows lean strength. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, leg lift stride, average balance. Ability to repeat swing, short path, hits off front foot, line drive contact. 79 mph exit velocity from the tee. 4.15 runner down the line. Defensively arm action is long and firm from a high ¾ slot, 78 mph across the diamond. Funnels the baseball with two hands from static position.

Nick Gehrke, INF, Minooka, 2021
5-foot-6, 120-pound left-handed hitting infielder. Open stance, short stride to even, minimal loading action, lower half works, strong balance throughout. Line drive approach, short path, fluid rhythm, 81 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively hands played soft, quick exchange, athletic defender, quick transfer, plays with bounce. Arm action is athletic, quick release, 77 mph across the diamond. 4.54 runner down the line.

Jake Gessert, INF, St. Joseph, 2020
6-foot-1, 160-pound infielder, lean build, body has some projection. Defensively moved well, athletic and plays through the baseball, better actions when on the move, gets static at times with ball at him, exchange is efficient on the move and arm can play from lower slot. Loose arm action, 77 mph across the diamond. 4.25 runner down the line, easy athletic runner. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, leg kick stride. Path is long and uphill, feels for the barrel at times. 86 mph exit velocity from the tee.

Blake Gould, RHP/INF, Warren (IL), 2020
5-foot-11, 195-pound two-way player. On the mound works with some effort, arm action is long, high ¾ slot. Fastball is straight, ranged 67-72 mph, topped at 73 mph. Slider is gradual on 10/4 plane, 61-62 mph. Changeup fades, 70-73 mph. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, slight arm bar load, short stride. Simple and repeats swing, level path. 79 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensilvey profiles at a corner infield spot, loose arm action 74 mph across the diamond. 5.19 runner down the line.

Juan Gurrola, INF, West Bend East, 2019
5-foot-10, 200-pound infielder, strong build. Right-handed hitter, tall setup, drops hands into arm bar load, leg kick trigger. Strong hands, produces bat speed on uphill path, 88 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm plays 77 mph across the infield, long firm action, high ¾ slot. On heels at times, 4.29 down the line.

Mason Hege, 1B, Marian Central Catholic (IL), 2020
6-foot-1, 200-pound first baseman. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, crouched setup, short stride, minimal lower half. Path is long, static approach, gap to gap contact, bat strength. 87 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is long and firm, high ¾ slot, 67 mph across the diamond. 4.92 runner down the line.

Andrew Heinz, INF, Germantown, 2021
5-foot-11, 169-pound infielder, average frame. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, loads hands back into slight arm bar, short stride. Path is short and level, above average bat speed for his age, occasional pull side approach. 83 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm plays long from a high ¾ slot, 71 mph across. Funnels with exaggerated two-hand approach. 4.79 runner down the line.

Jared Heinzen, OF/INF, Tremper, 2019
6-foot-2, 165-pounds, upside frame, athletic body type with lean present strength. Got down the line at 4.20 from a right-handed jailbreak swing. Defensively projects best in the outfield, possible third base profile. Fields out in front and pays through the baseball, long exchange, fluid feet. Arm action is long from a high ¾ slot, 82 mph across the infield, 83 mph from the outfield. Hits from a tall setup, leg kick trigger, lacks balance through finish. Middle to opposite field contact, well above average bat speed, timing will improve as lower half stays grounded. 96 mph exit velocity from the tee.

Matthew Hill, 1B, St. Joseph, 2020
Large frame for age, 6-foot-3, 185-pound right-handed hitting first baseman. Shows feel around the bag, hands play through the baseball. Arm action is long and over the top, 69 mph across the diamond. Hits from a balanced stance, short toe tap stride. Ability to stay on top of the baseball, path is level. 86 mph exit velocity from the tee. 4.44 runner in the 60.

Tyler Horton, INF, Westosha Central, 2020
5-foot-11, 135-pound infielder, lean frame. Right-handed hitter, wide setup, leg kick stride, average balance. Loads into high back elbow, creates mostly level path with length. 76 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is loose, high ¾ slot, 72 mph across. Showed ability to play through the baseball, clean exchange. Gets down the line at 4.68.

Brandon Johnson, 1B, Tremper, 2021
6-foot-1, 175-pound first-baseman. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, toe tap stride, average balance. Path is long and uphill, slight pull side approach. 75 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is short from a high ¾ slot, 60 mph across the diamond. 4.97 runner in the 60.  

Eric Juarez, INF, Tremper, 2019
5-foot-10, 160-pound two-way player. Right-handed hitter, tall setup, slightly open, leg lift trigger and lower half collapses. Path works uphill with length, 76 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm plays from high ¾ slot, 79 mph across the infield. 4.83 runner down the line. On the mound arm works from a ¾ slot, drop and drive style. Fastball played 73-75 mph, slight arm side run. Slider has gradual action, 65-66 mph. Changeup sat 69-70 mph, near fastball arm speed.

Ethan Kaiman, RHP/INF, Naperville North (IL), 2021
6-foot, 165-pound two-way player. Showed best on the mound, feel for multiple pitches, delivery works in line and repeats. Arm action is short from a high ¾ slot. Fastball showed ability to command, 74-75 mph, topped at 76 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape, flashed sharp action, 62-64 mph. Straight changeup, occasional fading action, 67-71 mph. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride. Pull side approach, level path, 80 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is short, high 3.4 slot. 71 mph across the diamond. Ran a 4.93 down the line.

Mason Kirk, 1B, West Bend East, 2019
6-foot-2, 187-pound left-handed hitting first-baseman. Tall offensive setup, short stride dives to contact. Average bat speed, long path, balance can improve. 78 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is long, over the top slot, 68 mph across. Runs 4.51 down the line.

Colin Lehmann, C/1B, Barrington (IL), 2020
6-foot, 202-pound first baseman and catcher. Offensively, right-handed, balanced setup, toe-tap stride. Regularly looking to lift the ball on uphill path, hard contact; 92 mph exit velocity off the tee. Behind the plate, short-arm action, over-the-top slot; 70 mph from the crouch. Soft, athletic block. Clean exchange; pop times between 2.26-2.37. At first base, high ¾ slot; 71 mph in the infield.

Connor Luoma, INF, Wilmot, 2020
6-foot-1, 180-pound infielder. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, slight bat wrap load, short stride. Path is level, stays on top of the baseball, 71 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is short and over the top, 64 mph across the infield. Gathers to exchange, mechanical actions. 5.04 runner home to first.

Timothy Nelson, 3B/RHP, Racine Lutheran, 2021
5-foot-9, 210-pound two-way player. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride, average balance through contact. Path has length, front foot contact at times. 79 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is short, high ¾ slot, 68 mph across the diamond. Hands are average, clean exchange. 5.15 runner down the line. On the mound fastball is 71-72 mph. Curveball has 10/4 shape, near fastball arm speed, 63-65 mph. Changeup is 62-65 mph, fading action.

Luke Nolan, INF/RHP, Lake Forest (IL), 2019
6-foot-1, 165-pound two-way player. Right-handed hitter, open stance, short leg kick stride back to even. Path is level, long finish, 79 mph exit velocity from the tee. 4.69 runner down the line. DEfensively arm action is long, high ¾ slot, 78 mph across the infield. Long actions, static fielding position, feet get flat at times, corner infield profile .On the mound arm action is long, high ¾ slot. Fastball slightly runs to arm side, 76-77 mph, topped at 80 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape, 69-70 mph. Slight sinking changeup, 72-74 mph.

Carter Perusich, C/INF, Indian Trail, 2019
5-foot-9, 160-pound catcher and middle infielder. Defensively showed abilities both behind the plate and on the infield. Above average catching actions, projects best there, repeated clean exchange and fluid footwork; pop times between 2.19-2.34. Short-arm action from over-the-top slot with accuracy and flashed carry; 74 mph from the crouch and accurate, 79 mph across the diamond and flashed athleticism. Offensively, right-handed batter, balanced setup, small stride. Uphill path, lifted contact; topspin some. 81 exit velocity from a tee. Ran 4.37 home-to-first.

Cole Ramczyk, INF/RHP, Wild Rose, 2020
5-foot-10, 150-pound two-way player. RIght-handed hitter, tall, narrow, open stance, slightly drops hands into load, short stride to even. Path has length, works around the baseball at times, 79 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm plays at 72 mph across the diamond. 4.57 runner down the line. On the mound fastball topped at 74 mph, sat 72-73 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape, gradual and dropped for strikes, 55-58 mph. Changeup is straight, 60-62 mph.

Kai Sauceda, INF, Tremper, 2021
5-foot-10, 155-pound infielder. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short reverse load stride. Path is long and level, average bat speed. 73 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is long, ¾ slot. 65 mph across the diamond. 4.61 runner home to first.

Sam Scarlato, INF/RHP, Indian Trail, 2020
6-foot-2, 210-pound two-way player, large build. Right-handed hitter, balanced setup, leg lift stride, lift and replace. Shows easy strength at times, path is long on uphill plane. 88 mph exit velocity form the tee. Defensively arm action is long, high ¾ slot, 78 mph across the diamond. Profiles as a corner infielder, hands works limited range. 4.76 home to first. On the mound fastball works uphill, 77-79 mph, touched 80 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape, 61-65 mph. Changeup sinks slightly, 68-72 mph.

Tyler Schultz, INF, Tremper, 2021
5-foot-4, 130-pound infielder. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short hell lifted stride, average balance. Lacks present strength, sweeping path, 64 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is long, high ¾ slot, 63 mph. Long exchange, shuffles through the baseball to release. 5.11 runner home to first.

Gregory Van Hollen, INF, Barrington (IL), 2019
5-foot-8, 145-pound infielder, lean strength. Right-handed hitter, tall narrow stance, short stride, good balance. Path stays on top, short path, line drive contact. 82 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is short and firm, high ¾ slot, 77 mph across the diamond. Average hands, feet shuffle through the baseball. 4.56 runner in the 60.  

Justin Vaughn, RHP/1B, Warren (IL), 2019
6-foot-4, 195-pound two-way player, lean build, squared shoulders. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short toe tap stride, average balance. Hands are loose, creates bat speed, level path, line drive contact. 78 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is long, over the top slot, 78 mph across the diamond. On the mound arm plays from an over the top slot. Fastball has slight running action, 79-81 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape, 68-72 mph. Changeup sinks with slight fade, 70-74 mph.

Blake Wallenfang, RHP/INF, Notre Dame Academy, 2021
5-foot-10, 185-pound two-way player. Corner infield defender, arm is short and over the top, 75 mph across the diamond, showed best at first base. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, leg kick stride, average balance. Path is long and level, works around the baseball, pull side approach. 84 mph exit velocity from the tee. On the mound arm action is short and over the top, some effort. Fastball is straight, 73-74 mph, straight action. Curveball has 12/6 shape, near fastball arm speed, 60-65 mph. Changeup has slight sink, 70-72 mph. Cutter lacks actions, straight, 72-74 mph.
