TN HS Team Preview: Goodpasture Christian School

Hunter Martin
TN Scouting Director

The 2024 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Power 25 and much more.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

    TEAM OUTLOOK

Goodpasture is coming off an impressive season where they went 36-6 but saw it come to a tough end losing a heartbreaker to Northpoint Christian in the TSSAA DII 1A state championship 5-6. That team was loaded with a lot of top end talent with 2 players hearing their names called into the MLB draft and eventually signing. That season is gone but the Cougars do return quite a bit of talent, while also getting some transfer help. Senior OF and Ohio state signee Bishop Quarles should move up into the top half of the lineup where he is a consistent doubles producer from the left-side of the plate. You then have uncommitted junior outfielder Rylan Moses, who will push to take over CF full time and is another premium lefty bat that will slide into the top half of the lineup. Junior C Tyler Cross should take over catching duties full time and offers some pop with the bat from the left side, while being a consistent hitting threat last season in the bottom half of the lineup. On the mound, the Cougars will be led by senior ETSU signee Jake Truitt with a fastball that jumps into the upper 80’s. They also will be injected with some electricity with Navy commit RHP/SS Harrison Cassle who should slide in as the number 2 with a fastball that has clocked in the low 90’s at times. He should also bat somewhere in the top of the lineup, while manning shortstop when not pitching. Junior LHP Luke Vierkant is another guy that will push for a starting rotation spot on the mound where he comes in with a low 80’s fastball and feel for secondary offerings. The Cougars lost a lot of talent off of last years team but have rebounded with more depth on the mound going into this season. The lineup may not be as strong as it was a season ago, but it is still plenty capable and with already having so much deep postseason experience under their belt, Goodpasture will be no easy out regardless of who they match up with. Expect another deep postseason run from these guys as they look to make it their 3rd consecutive season in the state tournament.
