TN HS Team Preview: Franklin Admirals

Hunter Martin
TN Scouting Director

The 2024 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Power 25 and much more.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

In 2024 the Franklin Admirals are primed to bring a young team to the field hoping to build on a 2023 season in which they were 19-11. Head Coach Wally Whidby brings back 4 returning starters and 8 total returning pitchers. The admirals will look to senior RHP/IF and Coastal Alabama signee Trevor Ferris to steer the ship, as he was a ‘23 TBCA First team All-State selection, as well as District Pitching of the year, where he posted a 7-1 record with a 0.46 Era. He also brings some tools hitting where he finished with a .321 average and 21 RBIs. Senior outfielder and Centre College signee Tristan Vallone will look to be a spark plug at the top of the order coming off a season where he hit .328 with 10 bags. Logan Johnson, senior RHP and Tennessee Tech signee, is transferring to a starting role for the Admirals after being the club’s closer last season. Johnson brings a great spin rate on his FB that will ambush people in the zone. Rounding out the pitching rotation is ‘24 grad and Oakton College signee Jackson Lange. The lefty works out of a funky arm action with command of 3 pitches, running his fastball to the mid 80s. The Admirals are looking for big performances this season from the Hoard brothers. The juniors both had solid showings this February at our Prep Baseball Tennessee Preseason All-State event. Both brothers are super athletic running in the low 7’s with both having exit velocities in the mid 90. Coach Whidby also brings a solid group of ‘26s to the field. C/3B Elijah Crenshaw who also attended our Preseason All State and is currently the 6th ranked catcher in the state, and has a very high game IQ and will be a great asset behind the plate. RHP Isaac Bonner works from a low arm slot with the ability to locate 3 pitches. ‘25s Seth Evans and Owen Binkley bring added depth to the pitching chart. Both uncommitted pitchers bring strike throwing ability with projectable frames with good velocity. District 10 will not be easy as it is one of the most talented districts in all of the state. If the Admirals pitchers can go deep into games, look for them to be able to compete against anyone, as it looks to be completely wide open.
