TN HS Team Preview: East Hamilton Hurricanes

Hunter Martin
TN Scouting Director

The 2024 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Power 25 and much more.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The East Hamilton Hurricanes are bringing a young roster to the table this year as they look to improve upon their 2023 season in which they finished 15-19. Head coach Shaw Gamble is hopeful about his squad this year as he is returning 6 starters. The Hurricanes will look to ‘25 RHP and recent Tennessee Tech commit Carson Davis to have a great season on the mound. Davis was a standout at our Knoxville Preseason ID in February where he topped 88 mph with a feel for 2 offspeed pitches. East Hamilton will also look to ‘24 3B/OF and Carson-Newman commit Maddox Bohannon to be a key part of their lineup and be a key leader on the field. ‘24 OF Trey Crawford to be a pillar patrolling the outfield for them. The speedy outfielder committed to Union to play football and should be a big contributor in ‘24 for the Hurricanes. Coach Gamble will also look to juniors Peyton Harris and Gavin Huskey to also play big parts this season. Harris a ‘25 uncommitted SS brings plus speed and good bat to ball skills and will be a leader up the middle. Gavin Huskey is an uncommitted ‘25 OF/RHP who is extremely physical and will bring solid power to the middle of the order. The Hurricanes will also look to a trio of ‘26s to pick up some quality innings on the mound behind Davis. Carter Bohiken ‘26 RHP brings a very projectable frame at 6-4 180 to the field. Davis was up to 83 in the fall with much more in the tank. Accompanying his classmate will be ‘26 RHP/IF Peyton Hunter, who brings a whippy arm with a heavy 85 mph fastball from a small frame. Finishing the trip will be ‘26 LHP/OF/1B Davis Whitener. The lefty was an all-district selection as a freshman and looks to have another great season this spring. The Hurricanes hope to bring more success to their plate this season with a young and talented squad.
