TN HS Team Preview: Christian Brothers Purple Wave

Hunter Martin
TN Scouting Director

The 2024 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Power 25 and much more.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TOP RETURNING PLAYERS

    TEAM OUTLOOK

Christian Brothers come into the spring 2024 season with a loaded roster yet again. The club had a strong season a year ago and one could argue that they fell short in the sectionals losing 2 in a row to Lipscomb Academy out of Nashville. Pitching looks to be the club’s strength as they get ready to embark on another campaign. The Purple Wave will have a host of two-way guys that offer upside at both positions. The club will have a handful of talented arms to go to and will be led by none other than senior South Carolina signee Riley Goodman. The FB is for real with life that can get into the low 90’s at times. You also have unsigned senior RHP Grady Booth. He is another guy with serious life on the heater where he has been clocked up to 89 mph. Rounding out the 3 man rotation looks to be senior Itawamba Community College signee Nathan Ferris. The prospect comes in as their de facto starting 3rd baseman, while also showcasing a fastball that can reach into the upper 80’s. At shortstop and a top-half of the lineup hitter is uber talented Gabe Boyd who comes in with sub 6.7 speed and a stick from the right side that holds some current juice. ‘25 OF Lucas Caraway was a standout this past summer at our Prep Baseball Top Prospect games and comes in with sub 7 speed and ability to hit in the gaps to all parts of the field. He should slide in as a middle of the order bat this season. Junior outfielder Halton Donnelly is another guy that comes in with decent speed at 7 flat and will most likely roam a corner outfield spot. Junior Colin Tobin is another guy that may find himself in a corner outfield spot, while also having a mid 80’s FB. He will push for a district spot on the mound, and could have first out of the pen type of opportunities. The Purple Wave also have a pair of newer faces in freshman catchers Will Brick and Will Britt. Both are top-10 players in the ‘27 class and will be major weapons this season and beyond. Brick is the more physical one at this point and has advanced actions behind the plate. Britt can play other positions and also has a low-to-mid 80’s FB currently, as he should get ample looks on the mound this spring. The team is an older and more experienced unit this season, which should aid them in making another deep run, with expectations of getting back to the state tournament.
