TN HS Team Preview: Rossview Hawks

Hunter Martin
TN Scouting Director

The 2024 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Power 25 and much more.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

    TEAM OUTLOOK

Rossview had a really strong team a season ago with wins over powerhouses Collierville and Houston in the regular season, while also splitting their 4 games between crosstown rival Clarksville 2-2 before losing to eventual state tournament simifinalist Collierville in the sub-state. The Hawks come into 2024 with high expectations with 8 returning positional starters to go along with 3 returning arms that have pitched meaningful innings on varsity. The offensive ability at the plate with athleticism on the basepaths and defensively should all serve as strengths for this season. The entire infield and outfield are all set to return with valuable experience under their belt. Pitching is where the Hawks will have to replace some guys with losing their one of their top arms from last season and their #1 going into this season, senior and Southwest CC signee Hezekiah Scott to a torn ACL. Seniors Drew Morehead and Brodie Prairie with junior Andrew Day will look to lead the inexperienced but talented group on the mound. Junior SS Caden Slaughter looks to step back into the leadoff spot where he will steal bags on occasion. Senior 1B and Austin Peay signee Brady Cooper will be back at 1st base, while most likely in the 2/3 hole in the lineup. Brodie Prairie will be in the number 1/2 mix on the mound, while also manning CF for the Hawks. He should slide somewhere in the middle-top half of the lineup where he has been a consistent run producer. Drew Morehead is another guy that will be in the 1/2 mix in the rotation, while manning 2nd base and locking down the backend of the lineup order. Junior Houston Herbert looks like he should see plenty of innings on the bump this season, while being a corner infielder. Junior CJ Lattimore will move from the outfield this season and play the hot corner it looks like, while batting from the left-side in the middle part of the lineup. Junior outfielder Johnny Cabaleiro will be back in a corner outfield spot and looks to be a speed guy on the basepaths in the back half of the lineup order. Junior Julian Richards will take over another corner outfield spot, while setting in in the bottom half of the lineup. You also have incoming junior transfer Ashton Kemp who looks to take over primary catching duties. He has present athletic components that were on full display this fall at our PBR Scout Day where he ran a 6.85 with some present juice in the barrel. Rossview looks locked and loaded again in District 13, with their biggest opponent for the regular season title coming down between them and Clarksville yet again. If they can get their pitching rotation figured out early and those guys can eat up innings, they should have enough firepower to compete with just about any team. They have eyes set to get back to the sub-state yet again, this time with Murfreesboro on their mind come late May.
