TN HS Team Preview: Scotts Hill Lions

Hunter Martin
TN Scouting Director

The 2024 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Power 25 and much more.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

    TEAM OUTLOOK

The Scotts Hill Lions are looking to improve upon their 2023 campaign which saw them go 16-11 within the 2A District 13. Head coach Drake Thompson has a great feeling about his squad that sees 11 pitchers returning as well as 4 starters in the field. Thompson’s team will be led by some key upperclassmen as well as a solid core of younger guys looking to help as well. They will look to big performance this season from Senior C/RHP Kyle Carter who should be a big contributor towards the top of the line. Who will command the pitching staff from behind the plate as well as providing some quality innings off of the bump. Senior infielder Myles Maness will look to be a mainstay on the left side of the lion's infield and on the bump. Looking to fill some uncertainty in the outfield will be juniors Jackson and Chandler Crinder who should both contribute all over the field. Also looking to contribute in the outfield is ‘27 OF/LHP and two time Prep Baseball Junior Future Games participant (‘21 & ‘22) Mason Beers will look to stick at the top of the order for the Lions. Junior uncommitted RHP/1B Cy Maness will look to hold the brunt of the innings for his squad. Maness has pitched in every game so far in the early campaign stringing 17 strikeouts together through 6 innings of work. Maness will also look to be a staple ignitor within the lineup giving good strength towards the top. Coach Thompson will look for his solid core of older players and arms to drive forward and show a good example for the group of talented underclassmen. The team will show good speed on the basepaths with an athletic infield core as they look to improve on a solid season last year and stand at the top of their district with a postseason berth waiting on the other side.
