TN HS Team Preview: Central Magnet Tigers

Hunter Martin
TN Scouting Director

The 2024 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Power 25 and much more.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Central Magnet School Tigers are coming off and looking to improve upon their 2023 season in which they went 23-14 and were district champions. They are returning 8/9 out of their starting lineup. With lots of experience and accolades they look to make a run further into playoffs this year. The Tigers bring a solid core of Senior talent to the field for 2024. SR Uncommitted OF Will Becker is coming off of a season where he hit .425 and was named to the TSWA AAA All state team. The tall outfielder will look to add additional collegiate looks with a follow up spring season. ‘24 Grad Jake Maddox goes into his senior spring season uncommitted. The OF/P had 4 shutouts on the mound last year and was named to the AAA All-state team. ‘24 RHP/OF and Vol State Commit Nate Stewart looks to have another great season on offense and pitching. A recent arm slot drop proved to yield great results. Jon Cook, a 4 year starter will patrol CF for the Tigers, he hit .340 last year with 30 RBI’s. Carter Long and Mitchell Coons man the left side of the infield for Coach Patterson. Coons was an all region selection last year in a season he hit .417, Long was perfect on the year going 25-25 on SB attempts to the tune of a .341 batting average. Uncommitted junior Collin Wind was district pitcher as a freshman, looking for him to have a big bounceback year after an injury shortened sophomore campaign. Has a very projectable frame with more velo in there. Head Coach Jason Patterson is looking to lead his squad to another great season.
