Hunter Martin
TN Scouting Director

The 2024 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Power 25 and much more.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

Class of 2024

The Silverdale Seahawks are coming off of a 35-7 record and state tournament finish where they went 1-2. The 2023 season was filled with blowout wins and sweeping their district rival Boyd Buchanan. The club is gearing up for another electrifying season as they strive to make their mark on the state tournament once again. With a combination of seasoned veterans and promising newcomers, Coach Rorex’s squad is prepared for another deep postseason run. The lineup will have some shakeup’s with new faces to sort themselves out but there are established positions already settled with a few upperclassmen. Senior 2nd baseman and Southwest Community College signee Owen Phillips returns to the top half of the lineup where he had 4 hits in the state tournament in 2023. His tandem mate will be rising sophomore Drake Dills, who was the everyday shortstop as a freshman. He should move up in the lineup with the amount of turnover that has taken place. Senior Maddux Jones will start in right field, while also being the Seahawks number 1 on the bump this season. He comes in with mid-upper 80’s on the fastball and will be a major factor in how far this team can go this season. Sophomore Brett Oxford is a guy that can play a multitude of positions and will bounce around as the season progresses and a player that looks to have a bright future in the game with the present athleticism. He will also slide into the number 2 role this season giving them a 3 pitch mix. Senior Caleb Beavers has a chance to have primary 3rd base duties, while being a staple in the middle part of the order and number 3 rounding out their district starting rotation. Junior Bennett Reagan and sophomore Tanner Bayne look to platoon catching duties with both showing good receiving skills behind the plate with Reagan also being one of the first out of the pen. Freshman LHP Maddux Hasty will be making his first appearance at the high school level this spring and should be another arm out of the pen with ability to make spot starts when needed. The Seahawks have some shoes to fill but Coach Rorex remains optimistic and with an influx of some younger talent molding with the experience of the upperclassmen, the club could find themselves making another deep push in the postseason. Boyd Buchanan will be improved and the district will be tough but expect big things for the Seahawks this season.
