2019 Junior National Team Preview - The Friele Five

With baseball gearing up already in Florida with the Canadian PBR Spring Training in full swing and teams playing games across the state of Florida, it’s time we take a look at the upcoming Canadian Junior National Team as they prepare for their first game action this Friday March 15th in St. Petersburg.

2021 Standout

Simon Lusignan RHP / De Mortagne, QC / 2021

Making his debut with Team Canada, RHP Simon Lusignan (2021) is quickly emerging as one of the best pitchers in the country and remains uncommitted. Standing at 6-foot-5, 190-pounds, Lusignan has a very projectable, loose frame with further room to develop. It’s a very athletic and smooth delivery that stays on line effectively. He has been up to 91 miles per hour with his fastball this year with command. There is present arm speed and with his athleticism, a jump in velocity is likely. His off speed continues to develop with his slider showing some late bite. He has shown some feel for the pitch and it can progress into a true strikeout pitch. Lusignan has a lot of upside and this trip will be a good test to see how he battles against pro competition.

Pitching Schedule

  • Friday, March 15 – Intersquad Game (St. Petersburg)
  • Wednesday, March 20 – Tampa Bay Rays
