Alabama Class of 2025 Rankings: Preseason Update

As the first pitch of the 2024 high school season is close to just a week away, we expanded the 2025 AL Rankings to 175 prospects. As the build-up for the high school season is in full swing, we highlight some fresh faces in the rankings as well as the top uncommitted prospects by position.

As always, the evaluation process is a fluid and ongoing process with multiple viewings in order to get the best feel for players abilities. It’s important to note that as players continue their development some show marked improvement at a much more rapid pace. That doesn’t indicate that other players got worse or went backwards, it’s just how player development works. As the year unfolds, players make improvements and new prospects pop up on the radar expanding the PBR rankings universe. In addition to the evaluations of players, our scouts, both those in Alabama and nationally, have also had multiple discussions with each other to review our individual lists and then make adjustments based on what we've each seen.

The Top-5

Caleb Barnett 3B / RHP / Mountain Brook, AL / 2025

From 1/7/24: "Alabama recruit. 6-foot-5, 215-pounds. Long and projectable build that will hold future strength. Current No. 1 prospect in the 2025 class in AL and lived up to the hype on both ends during the event. Ultra-talented two-way prospect with massive ceilings both at the plate and on the mound, and remains to be seen if he chooses to pick one or stay with both in the future. One of the louder rounds of BP with multiple triple digit exits and a top EV at 102.5 mph. Long levers and present strength allows him to turn the barrel with impressive bat speed; immense power potential. Equally as impressive on the mound, where he worked 89-90 mph and touched 90.8 mph with his fastball. Back-spins the heater well registering spin rates in the 2300-2400 rpm range and gets 18-20 in. of induced vertical break, allowing it to play up even more. Breaking ball features sharp bite in the low-70's and has a great feel to turn over a fading changeup in the upper-70's, both of which are routinely poured into the strike zone. Continues to show up at PBR events and leave our staff ultra-impressed, and looks poised for a stellar junior campaign."

3B/RHP Caleb Barnett (1/7/24)

Fleming Hall RHP / SS / Trinity Presbyterian, AL / 2025

From 8/3/23: "An Auburn recruit, Hall bursted onto the scene during his freshman campaign in 2022, where he helped lead Trinity Presbyterian to the Class 3A State Championship. After being sidelined on the mound for the majority of the spring, the right-hander showed he was back to full-strength at the Area Code Games, where he worked 90-92 mph and used a short slider in the low-80's. Really athletic arm with competitive traits."

RHP Fleming Hall (8/3/23)

Dillon Adkins OF / LHP / Bob Jones High School, AL / 2025

From 11/29/23: "Tennessee recruit. Recent move-in from out of state to Bob Jones HS and has a chance to make an immediate impact on both sides of the ball. Hitter-ish look in the left side of the box and seems to have innate ability to find the barrel at a high rate and spray firm contact to all fields. Really simple offensive setup; quick stride and short, direct path to contact where he keeps barrel extended through zone. Rumored to be low-80's southpaw with some pitch-ability; exciting prospect to see this upcoming spring."

Ma'Kale Holden C / RHP / Thompson, AL / 2025

From 3/14/23: "Holden (Hoover, 2025) is regarded as a Top-10 prospect in the sophomore class in AL with a strong two-way skill set that he displayed in last night’s contest. Getting the nod on the mound in a big matchup between a pair of Top-10 teams in Class 7A, the Alabama recruit labored a bit throughout his outing and scuffled with some command, but was still fairly effective yielding just one run. The 6-foot-0, 180-pounder lived in the mid-80’s with his fastball and touched 87 mph in the early going. His go-to offering that got him out of a pair of jams was a sharp breaking ball at 74-76 mph that flashed late, downer action and collected some swings-and-misses. Possibly even more impressive, Holden took some quality at-bats hitting in the cleanup spot of a strong and talented lineup, and looked the part of a middle-of-the-order hitter in the process. Although he didn’t show up in the box score offensively, the sophomore showed big gap-to-gap power with a deep drive that died at the warning track for a loud fly out to center field. He looks natural hitting from the right side, and is fast getting his barrel to the point of contact where the ball seems to jump off his bat."

C/RHP Ma'Kale Holden (8/2/23)

Zackary Johnson C / OF / Bob Jones , AL / 2025

From 10/17/23: "Alabama recruit. 6-foot-0, 185-pounds. Medium, athletic build with proportional strength. Another Top-10 ranked prospect in the 2025 class in AL that was seemingly on the barrel for the entirety of the weekend. It's been well documented Johnson's ascension over the past year as a relative unknown going into his sophomore season, but he quickly cemented himself as one of the top pure hitters in the class after bursting onto the scene last spring for Bob Jones and a standout performance at the PBR Future Games. Currently ranked as the No. 7 prospect in the 2025 class in AL, the right-hander began his weekend taking an eye-opening round of BP, where he sprayed high exits to all fields with a top EV at 102.9 mph, an event-best. He has a keen understanding of finding the sweet spot which nearly each swing he takes using a balanced, athletic setup with loose, quick hands that leads a heavy barrel to contact. He carried over that approach to gameplay, where he accumulated multiple hits and looked comfortable against some quality arms. He's equally as talented on the defensive side, whether it be behind the plate or in the outfield. There's plenty of athleticism and flexibility behind the plate and he's an above-average receiver being able to steal strikes for his pitchers, while also posting 1.94-2.00 pop times with a velocity of 79 mph. Johnson also looked comfortable in the grass, where he made all the routine plays in addition to a diving grab in foul territory. He's quickly made himself one of the top names in the junior class in AL, and if he continues to perform at such a high level, Johnson will continue to see his name climb up the rankings."
