OK 2027 Class Initial Rankings

Scott Hood
Oklahoma Scouting Director

Prep Baseball Oklahoma has release our initial 2027 class rankings with a look at the top 30 players in the class.  As these players begin their high school careers, we have kept the initial rankings to only players that we have either seen at our events or have seen in person in tournaments throughout the past few years.  As we continue to get our eyes on more prospects in the 2027 class, the rankings will see increases in numbers as well as a lot of movement throughout the next couple of years as players continue to separate themselves, as well as gaining more strength and experience.  There are multiple factors that come into play when putting players in order such as current skill level, athleticism, and production as well as some slight projection based on size, strength, and rawness of tools.  Players develop in different stages throughout their high school years so we take all of the information that we have available to us to make our rankings as thorough as possible.  Throughout this list, there will be multiple players that will make immediate impacts at the Varsity level this spring and some that will have to wait their turn depending on the talent level ahead of them with upperclassmen.  We will continue to gather more information on players in the 2027 class throughout the coming years through our events as well as our boots on the ground scouting in both the Spring and Summer.  Today we take a closer look at the Top 10 in the initial rankings with notes and videos on what makes them standout currently.

Cole Dunlap C / RHP / Carl Albert, OK / 2027

Dunlap begins our initial rankings in the 2027 class as the number one ranked prospect as one of the top 2-way talents in the state.  On the mound, Dunlap is able to work the fastball in the upper 80's with a short and quick arm action and shows quality spin on the slider and a hard curveball that can chase bats.  The arm strength plays up big behind the plate as well, already showing advanced strength out of the crouch with throws having elite carry and strong accuracy to the bag.  Dunlap has some rhythm in the swing and has shown in the past to work the ball to all fields with a line drive approach.  Where Dunlap will ultimately land on the diamond is still up in the air as he has shown high upside on both sides of the ball.  Whether it is as a power arm on the bump or one of the top catch and throw backstops in the country, Dunlap has the high end potential that should be fun to follow in the coming years.

Barrett Standley OF / RHP / Bixby , OK / 2027

Standley checks in at number 2 on the intial rankings as one of the cleaner arms in the class with the ball jumping out the hand at ease.  Standley works the fastball in the mid 80's currently and a shows a swing and miss breaking ball with heavy depth and action.  With how quick the hand works, don't be surprised to continue to see big jumps in velocity in the near future.

Landon Schmidt OF / RHP / Edmond Memorial, OK / 2027

Schmidt takes the third spot in the intial rankings as one of the most physical bats in the class.  The swing has a ton of quick twitch and tight rotation that allows him to generate some of the hardest contact in games and already showing big power potential.  With his quick hands and already advanced hand strength at the plate, don't be surprised to see Schmidt making an impact on a talented Edmond Memorial lineup sooner rather than later.

Bentley Seeberger C / RHP / Duncan, OK / 2027

Seeberger takes the number 4 spot in the intial rankings as a potential power arm and power bat in the 2027 class.  Already standing at a physical 6-foot-1 and 190-pounds, Seeberger shows strong bat speed and hand strength to generate exit velocities into the low 90's with strong balance and use out of the lower half in the swing.  The arm plays up at a high level behind the plate already reaching 80 mph from the crouch to yield showcase pop times as low as 2.0.  On the mound, Seeberger is already working the fastball up to 86 mph with strong spin and showing a firm curveball in the 78-80 mph range.

Koen Isaacson SS / 2B / Edmond Memorial, OK / 2027

Isaacson put on one of the more impressive showings at the Fall Underclass Games landing the left handed hitting middle infielder at number 6 on the initial rankings.  Isaacson is already showing a strong swing from both sides of the plate working exit velos up to 92.7 mph and a strong average of 85.5 mph across the rounds from both sides.  Isaacson also adds a strong athleticism compenent to his game with a 6.85 60 time and strong defensive actions with smooth rhythm and the ability to cover a ton of ground.

Wade Webb UTILITY / 3B / Mount St Mary's, OK / 2027

Checking in at number 6 on the initial 2027 class rankings is the outfielder from Mount St Mary's Wade Webb.  Webb participated on this past summer's Team Oklahoma at the Junior Future Games where the right handed hitting outfielder stood out with high production and showing big upside at the plate.  His biggest strength is his ability to handle multiple facets of the game at a high level and as he continues to add strength, he has the potential to be one of the top bats in the class.

Jax Van Valkenburg C / 1B / Owasso, OK / 2027

Van Valkenburg takes over the number 7 spot in the initial 2027 class rankings as one of the top hitting back stops in the class.  The switch hitter from Owasso shows an advanced feel for the barrel on both sides of the plate that shows up in strong production during live action.  He already has a strong feel for receiving and blocking to go along with an already advanced baseball IQ.  Van Valkenburg has potential middle of the order offensive skills and should be able to remain behind the dish in the future making him a highly followable prospect in the coming years.

Tristan Tomlin OF / RHP / Deer Creek, OK / 2027

Taking over the number 8 spot in the rankings is arguably the most athletically gifted prospect Tristan Tomlin.  Standing already at 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds, Tomlin has already seen big jumps with his higher end tools in a short couple of months.  One of the faster players in the class, Tomlin clocked in this past summer at 6.88 in the 60 and shows enough arm strength that should allow him to play any of the three spots in the outfield effectively.  He uses his longer levers to his advantage at the plate and should continue to see big jumps offensively has he gains more strength and experience in the box.

Brock Copass C / 3B / Bixby , OK / 2027

Holding down the number 9 spot in the debut of the 2027 rankings is the talented utility man from Bixby Brock Copass.  Copass has made the move to behind the plate in recent months where his quick transfers and above average arm strength yield showcase pop times as low as 2.0.  Offensively, Copass has some of the better strength at contact in the class working exit velos into the upper 80's and with his 6-foot-1 an 190 pound frame, it would not be shocking to see that number climb pretty significantly in the near future.  On the mound, Copass has shown the ability to pound the strike zone and come right after hitters with a shorter arm action and advanced hand speed which should see the velocity continue to rise in the coming years.

Benji Bauer C / 2B / Owasso, OK / 2027

Rounding out the top 10 in the initial 2027 class rankings is the catcher/middle infielder from Owasso Benji Bauer.  Bauer packs a ton of punch and sneaky athleticism into his compact frame with some of the hardest contact in the class.  Bauer showed exit velocities up to 95.6 this past summer at the Junior Future Games and is getting more comfortable from both sides of the box as a switch hitter.  Bauer has upside both as a backstop with quick feet and hips behind the dish as well as his work in the middle of the diamond with smooth actions and strong body control.
