Game recap:

The single 9 inning game at Chandler Gilbert Community College was highlighted by quality arms and offenses taking advantage of mistakes. Chandler-Gilbert started off the first inning with a Tristan Peters (FR-INF/OF) single, who is off to quite the start this season (.464, .559, .679). After SO Foster Gifford (Wichita State) threw a sac bunt attempt into CF, the Coyotes had runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs and eventually capitalized on a double by Tate Morrell (SO-OF), scoring 1 run.

In the top of the 2nd Chase Webster (FR-RHP), who started for the Coyotes, found himself in a bases loaded jam with 1 out. SO Connor Kimple (Louisiana Lafayette) led off the top of the second, beating out a chopper to 3B, followed by a HBP, K, and another HBP, loaded the bases. Webster made a nice play on a slow roller back to him, fielding and flipping the ball with his glove. Another soft ground ball to short, allowed Webster to get out of the inning without allowing any runs.

South Mountain kept the scoring going as Efrain Cervantes (SO-3B) by a solo homerun in the top of the 3rd on a hanging breaking ball from Webster. It looked like the leftfielder from Chandler-Gilbert robbed the homerun but came up empty handed.

Adding on a few runs throughout the game, South Mountain went into the 9th inning up 6-1. Jake Yodel (FR-RHP) came into the game and struggled to find the zone. Chandler-Gilbert put together tough at bats throughout 9th and ended up being 1 hit away from walking off South Mountain. The Coyotes were 1 strike away from the game being over on multiple occasions but showed off their competitiveness until ending the game at 6-5.
