NorCal Underclass Game: Pitcher Reports

ISLANDERS FIELD, LATHROP, CALIF. - The 2023 NorCal Underclass Game took place on Saturday, September 30th at Islanders Field. This event included a traditional showcase workout followed by live at-bats for the pitchers and hitters, with each hitter getting two at-bats.

Continuing our post-event coverage of the NorCal Underclass Game, we take a look at the pitchers, which concludes the reports for the event.

PITCHER SCOUTING REPORTS

Gino Cappellazzo C /3B / P / St. Francis, CA / 2026

Positional Profile: C/3B/P
Body: 6-3, 185-pounds. Long body with projectable proportions, budding muscularity.
Delivery: Uses stretch, erect stance. High lift, long stride in-line. Maintains body control.
Arm Action: RH. Longer arm swing into a high 3/4 slot.
FB: T85, 83-85 mph. Flashes plus horizontal movement with ground ball inducing action. Also able to bring it back on glove side. T2131, 2069 average rpm.
SL: 73-76 mph. Feel for zone, some tilt, occasional usage to front door. T2069, 1990 average rpm.

Finn Demuth RHP / St. Ignatius College Prep, CA / 2026

Body: 6-0, 185-pounds. Sturdy build, muscular through thighs, retains broad projectable upper body.
Delivery: Pitched out of stretch, feet shoulder width, smooth waist high lift, in-line stride, fans strike foot, downward head action through release, tucks and pulls against glove side, some recoil and negative move after backside finish.
Arm Action: RH. Long circular full backside arm action, loose shoulder, overhand release, aggressive from top of arm arc through release to finish.
FB: T86, 84-85 mph. Can create angle to bottom of zone on both side, most effective down though overhand release creates opportunity to use both top and bottom of zone, willing to use any quadrant. T2086, 2019 average rpm.
CB: 64-67 mph. Big overhand bender, has continuous depth deep into zone, can use for swings and misses. T2208, 2133 average rpm.
SL: 72-75.7 mph. Traditional slider shape and smooth late action, showed depth with ability to get takes on outer half, sets up ability to use FB for chases or takes on inner half, allows the CB to be used as an out pitch. T2159, 2153 average rpm.
CH: 75.4 mph. Only used once, more horizontal movement than FB while taking off significant amount of spin to create depth. T1566.

Parker Jessup C / RHP / Hillsdale, CA / 2027

Positional Profile: C/P
Body: 5-11, 155-pounds. Lean body, lower waist, fairly wide shoulders given his youth.
Delivery: Traditional rocker, calm lift just above waist, in-line stride, maintains body control.
Arm Action: RH. Slight pocket path, loose, overhand slot, full finish through extension.
FB: T77.5, 75-77 mph. Flashes some cut on glove side with ability to create run on arm side, stays down in zone, made pitches. T2112, 2033 average rpm.
SL: 65-68 mph. Feel for zone and nailed locations, finishes well, smooth continuous action, occasionally steeper with CB shape. T2115, 2000 average rpm.

Ryan Lujan MIF / P / Rocklin, CA / 2027

Positional Profile: MIF/P
Body: 5-8, 135-pounds. Lean wiry build, athletically proportioned.
Delivery: Traditional rocker, calm knee lift to waist, 1B side of rubber, in-line stride, maintains body control, quiet head.
Arm Action: RH. Slight backside stab to mid-thigh depth, high-3/4 release, no restrictions.
FB: T74, 72-73.6 mph. Pitched up in zone, straight FB, worked out to in, keeping hitters off balance. T1765, 1567 average rpm.
CB: 63-66 mph. Smooth shape, breaks to upper part of zone, late enough depth to be effective. T1939, 1829 average rpm.
CH: 66.4 mph. Significant rpm deceleration off fastball, pronates at release. T1151.

Hunter Lynch 3B / RHP / Argonaut, CA / 2026

Positional Profile: 3B/P
Body: 6-2, 230-pounds. Broad and burly, physical with athletic body coordination.
Delivery: High lift, hands are synced well with feet, long stride, slightly opens at foot strike, stable lower body, maintains body control with strong glove side.
Arm Action: RH. Quick short backside, high overhand release, all three pitches from same release height.
FB: T84.7, 80-84 mph. Flashed some cut to glove side while also using effectively on arm side, most effective down in zone to get ahead with ability to get chases up. T1888, 1803 average rpm.
CB: 67-70 mph. Big overhand breaker, smooth tumbling action, 11/5 shape, plays well off the high FB. T1790, 1737 average rpm.
CH: 68-76 mph. Presents well off FB, slightly more horizontal movement, arm side fade. T1501, 1454 average rpm.

Chase Tidwell LHP / OF / Bradshaw Christian, CA / 2026

Positional Profile: LHP/OF
Body: 5-10, 130-pounds. Lithe wiry build, developing body, good body control.
Delivery: High knee lift after slight turn at rubber, knee crosses rubber while showing ability to use 6-cleat show to hold runner, slight cross body, leans head off line to 3B side though displayed athletic body control.
Arm Action: LH. Smooth takeaway, reaches out to full extension, 3/4 release, gets inside FB, short extension and movement creates timing issues for hitters.
FB: T69, 67-68 mph. Big horizontal movement, efficient spin, can slide off barrel of RHHs while sinking it to LHH, pronates the pitch. T1875, 1772 average rpm.
CB: 61-62 mph. Big arching shape, break direction played well off big FB arm side action. T1716, 1651 average rpm.
