Alexander Central Capitalizes on Mistakes; Dispatches Cuthbertson

Cuthbertson – 1            Alexander Central – 4

Recap:

Alexander Central hosted Cuthbertson in the 2nd round of the NCHSAA 3A State Playoffs.  Maddox Kerley worked into the 6th for Alexander Central, earning the win, only allowing 1 run.

Cuthbertson would start the scoring in the 1stJohn Melton leadoff the game with a walk, moved to 2B on a groundout and scored on a Trevor Grant single to left.  This would be all the scoring allowed by two Alexander Central arms.

In the 3rd, the Kade Smith ledoff and stole 2B for Alexander Central.  After a walk, a bunt single from Easton Rhoney was thrown away in an attempt to get Smith at 3B.  Rhoney would move all the way to 3B, scoring Smith and Andrew Auton.  Rhoney would score later on a wild pitch, giving Alexander Central a lead it would not relinquish.  The 4th run would cross in the 6th as Jacob Bebber leadoff with a single and moved to second on a SAC bunt.  An infield error score Bebber with 1 out.

Dawson Elder closed the door on the Cavaliers, working 1.2 innings without allowing a hit, while striking out 2. 

Alexander Central will play Cox Mill next week in the 3rd round.  Cox Mill beat East Rowan 19-12 on Thursday to setup the matchup.
