Colorado Power 25 Rankings: Week 8

Caleb Dameron
Prep Baseball Colorado Staff

On Thursday, March 7th the Colorado spring season began play for all 5A-1A baseball programs. We continue our CHSAA Power 25 rankings with a look at how the teams have produced through the first eight weeks. The Prep Baseball Colorado staff has diligently scouted players and teams throughout this spring, and will continue to work hard to bring the state top notch coverage on the baseball diamond. Colorado is flourishing with high-end baseball talent at the moment and is starting to gather more and more national recognition as well. We hope to continue all momentum in the state while making an impact on the players and teams within.

#1 CHERRY CREEK

The Bruins are back in the #1 spot in this round-up of the rankings thanks to a 10 game winning streak which includes victories over Fossil Ridge, Cherokee Trail, and Grandview. Cherry Creek has a stable of Division I commits at the moment to go with an experienced team overall. We can also tell you that this program has no shortage of impact arms with 4 pitchers under a 2.40 ERA (three of them lead the team in innings pitched). Cherry Creek will certainly be a team to watch closely as postseason play looms closer.

#5 CASTLE VIEW

Castle View continues to get the job done with their relentless offense. This team had an impressive win over Rock Canyon last week where they racked up 19 runs, and then posted another win against ThunderRidge with 10 more runs. There seems to be no easy outs in this lineup at the moment which makes them one of the scariest teams heading into postseason.

#7 LEGEND

Legend has gotten back on track this spring with 4 straight quality wins. On 4/26 the Titans beat Chaparral 10-1, and then last week they beat all three of ThunderRidge, Highlands Ranch, and Regis Jesuit. Legend has a well rounded group this season thanks to some electric arms and some higher level hitters in Utz, Meissner, Wold, Stahl, Meuli, and Fladebo. There is still a chance Legend ends up as one of the top teams in the state when the regular season is all said and done.

#8 EATON

The Eaton Reds are on a historic run at the moment. This program is hunting for their 4th straight 3A state championship and have now won 60 games in a row. The Reds have one of the top rotations in the state and their offense should give about any team in 3A a problem. Eaton always has a target on their back, but they have continued to do nothing but dominate 3A baseball within the state.

#10 FORT COLLINS

One of the sneakiest teams in the state this spring just could be the 16-3 Fort Collins Lambkins. This squad is led by senior Sean Togher who can takeover any game both on the mound, and at the plate. Togher is now hitting .519 with 3 home runs, 5 stolen bases, and a 1.500 OPS through 74 plate appearances. The line for Togher on the mound is now up to 43.1 innings with 63 Ks, 11 walks, and a 1.28 ERA. Togher is committed to playing baseball at the Cal Baptist after this spring and will certainly make for one of the tougher matchups in the first round of playoffs.
