Colorado Preseason All-State: Infield Analysis

The PBR Colorado Preseason All-State took place on March 8th at Double Angel Ballpark. Nearly 50 prospects were in attendance, many of whom still remain uncommitted.
Yesterday, we began rolling out our scouting reports by taking a look at a talented group of catchers and outfielders. We continue our position-by-position analysis today with the infielders.

Finley Bates SS / 3B / Douglas County, CO / 2023Positional Profile: SS/3B Body: 5’8” 145 Run: 7.27 60 Hit: RHH Open Shoulder width stance, Rhythm toe tap to in line stride. Hands/Arm Angles have minimal movements. At launch, Finley in strong launch position. Rear side Acceleration is excellent. Attacking approach with hands. Aligned and In Sync. Path is has line drive tendency and demonstrates ability to keep hands inside of FB IN. Exit Velo 86. Middle of the Field approach. Comfortable is box, would consider Finley a Top prospect in the 2023 Class. Power: Projectable power to a given pitch, would see Finley as a Gap to Gap player how turns singles to doubles and doubles to triples Arm: INF Velo 80 Quick high ¾ release, short arc on back side Defense: Impressive actions at SS and impressive arm action on mound. Great energy. Can see advanced skills for age and can see continued development. Ball Player. |
Seth Beals 3B / RHP / Rocky Mountain, CO / 2021Rankings StateRank: 44 / POS: 5
Positional Profile: OF/RHP Body: 5’11” 185 Run: 6.92 60 Hit: RHH Narrow stance with coil leg lift to stride. Hands load with minimal movement. Front side drives momentum. Stays open at launch. Aggressive and quick hands to contact. Front side open and has tendency to pull side. See lots of potential in Seth. Quick twitch guy, can run. Will continue to development and refine . Power: 1B/2B type guy Arm: OF Velo 82. Strong arm with long quick arc. Defense: Cuts the distance on ground balls. Centerfield projection. Is a very good 2021 follow. |
Radek Birkholz RHP / SS / Valor Christian, CO / 2021Positional Profile: RHP/SS Body: 5’10” 195 Run: 7.06 60 Hit: RHH Wide solid base, light rhythm sway to a simple stride. Weight slightly forward at launch, but still generates explosive rear side acceleration and linear movement at contact. Hands are high and have downward attacking path. Closes base and occasionally off balance. Pull side tendencies. Radek’s confidence, athleticism and aggressiveness show up in his swing, with room for refining! Exit Velo 98 Power: Some lift and sync in lower/upper half would project him to have power. Arm: INF Velo 87 Defense: Plays SS for HS team. Hands play through ball and gather is quick catch to release. Accurate and comfortable at variable arm angles. |
Patrick Boland RHP / 1B / Mountain Vista, CO / 2022Positional Profile: RHP/1B Body: 6’3” 195 Run: 7.84 60 Hit: RHH Spread out stance. Has a sway back and high leg lift to stride. Toe opens. Barrel head in good position, arm angles create some length. Path is out/around with pull side tendencies. Follow through has good extension with one hand release. Exit Velo 84. Great energy and effort. Power: Can see some Gap to Gap development was he refines length in to quickness in his swing Arm: Inf Velo 73 Needs to get base before throwing. Short to Short arm action ¾ release. Defense: Fields ball in middle of body, creates momentum after fielding. Long movements, must develop quicker actions in MIF Better actions as 1B. Good pivot and redirection of footwork. |
Riley Feddema 3B / OF / Peak to Peak, CO / 2021Positional Profile: 3B/OF Body: 5’9” 175 Run: 7.47 60 Hit: RHH Upright stance, hands start on middle and high. Hands slowly walk away for load, leg lift to in line stride. 50/50 weight distribution at launch. Path has some length and strength. Lots of movement in hands Front side opens slightly. Very good contact round in event. Middle of the field of approach. Exit Velo 87. Power: As he quickens his swing, can see potential for power Arm: Arm works with short arc, high ¾ release. Defense: Hands have good rhythm through fielding progressions. Moves well. Would categorize as corner Inf. Can benefit by creating momentum before throw. |
Ryan Griffin SS / 2B / Lutheran, CO / 2023Positional Profile: SS/2B Body: 5’8” 130 Run: 7.20 60 Hit: RHH Wide base with stacked back side. Stride is very simple up/down. Hips leak forward slightly. Lower half is engaged. Rear side acceleration is very good. Path is direct with some length. Aggressive and attacking hands. Pull side tendencies with extended and one hand follow through. Exit Velo 80 Power: Would categorize him as 2B’s type hitter. Arm: INF Velo 69 Quick arm, really like ease and effort of throws Good feel and versatility in throws Defense: Good movements. Can see him at 3B/SS/2B Hands play through ball and gathers with momentum to throw |
Mitch Haythorn RHP / 1B / Eaton , CO / 2024Positional Profile: RHP/INF Body: 6’0” Run: 8.18 Hit: RHH Upright narrow stance open stance. Quick leg lift to an open toe stride. 50/50 weight distribution at launch. Hands stay stacked with slight length to arm angles. Path has some lift with high extended finish. Middle of the field approach and hands got to FB In for pull side ability. Some retraction at contact. Power: Wants to lift and demonstrate strength. As a 2024, can see development of power in future. +Hands Arm: Inf Velo 68 Some length in INF arc, good clean finish, accurate High 3/4 Defense: Still developing INF. Good athletic movements. Hands work through ball. Creates momentum throw after gather. Top 2024 Pitching Prospect in State, will be fun to watch 2 way development. |
Zachary Horwith RHP / SS / Douglas County, CO / 2021Rankings StateRank: 38 / POS: 18
Positional Profile: RHP/SS Body: 6’0” 165 Run: 7.26 Hit: RHH Widened base with slight sway and coil to load. Bat head parallel to ground. Hands have some length in path and lift. Easy rhythm and aggressive hands to contact. Rear side acceleration very good. Pull side approach. Some retraction at point of contact. Power: Can see Zach with pull side power. Arm: INF Velo 75 Quick arm action with ¾ release. Defense: Inf. Athletic movements and modified drop step to get around ball. Great hands through fielding position, quick gather to release. Good feel for variable arm angles. |
Wyatt Hough 3B / RHP / Legend , CO / 2021Rankings StateRank: 26 / POS: 1
Positional Profile: 3B/RHP Body: 5’11” 195 Run: 7.09 60 Hit: RHH Shoulder width in legs stance. Quick to load. Up/down stride, hands have minimal movement. Slight length in front arm. Excellent bat speed. Direct path to ball. Hands stay above ball, follow through has a high finish. Creates a great rear side acceleration and sync into hands. Repeatable. Would project ability to hit FB/SL/CB with balanced Middle of Field approach Demonstrated ability to get hands inside of FB in. Exit Velo 91 Power: Quickness and Strength. Gap to Gap ability with potential for more Arm: High ¾ release, could use lower half even more. Defense: Actions are good, flexibility important moving forward. Would project as corner Infielder. Aaron Kidd 2B / OF / Legend, CO / 2022Positional Profile: 2B/OF Body: 5’11” 155 Run: 7.70 Hit: RHH Wide balanced stance, stays in legs well. Minimal movements to load. Hands stay “attached” to back shoulder, good rhythm and timing. Hands have downward path with line drive tendency. Slight length in swing. Very good rear side acceleration to torso acceleration. Creates quick hands and strength Exit Velo 86 Really like balance and timing, believe he will have ability to hit for AVG with all pitches Power: Can see Aaron develop power as he develops strength Arm: INF Velo 72 High ¾ release with some time. Good feel for different arm angles Defense: Does a good job with getting into fielding position, left foot back approach. Has work to do as MIF, fielding outfront and a quick gather and gain ground to throws |
Derrick Kuhlmann SS / 2B / North Platte, NE / 2021Positional Profile: SS/2B Body: 6’0” 165 Run: 6.87 Hit: RHH Runner! Wide base with leg lift to in line Stride. 50/50 weight distribution and launch. Some length in front arm and tendency to get around. Slight lift to path. Demonstrated very good rear side acceleration and balance to finish. Pull side tendency. Good contact in event round. Exit Velo: 84 Raw Tools and quick twitch movements . Lots of talent to work with Power: Would see Derrick as a guy who turns Singles into Doubles Arm: INF Velo: 79 Short arc, high ¾ release. Defense: Good footwork t get around ball and create momentum through throw. Full gather and shuffle to throw. Very good tools to work and define skill set. Demonstrated good energy and effort. |
Tommy Marsh 3B / RHP / Cherry Creek, CO / 2023Positional Profile: 3B/RHP Body: 6’1” 190 Run: 7.52 Hit: RHH Wide Up right stance. Gradually lowers into legs with sway load. Hands high with light load. Hands are in consistent position to hit. Strong hands. Attacking hands with downward path to ball. Finish is high and has tendency to pull off slightly. Rear side acceleration is excellent, generates great torso velocity into hands. Still lots of room for growth and improvement Exit Velo 94 Power: Projectable power, like his quick hands and ability to get inside of pitches. Arm: Inf Velo: 75 Arm is clean with easy follow through. Casual, but arm works at different arm angles. Defense: Moves well with good actions. Demonstrates ability to be a corner infielder. Gather is quick and good shuffle into throw. Still raw as Inf, but very good talent to work with. Easy to see his potential. Would consider Tommy a Top 2023 prospect. |
Ethan McCormick SS / RHP / Riverdale Ridge , CO / 2022Positional Profile: SS/RHP Body: 5’7” 150 Run: 7.62 Hit: RHH Wide base slightly open, leg lift to stride in line. Weight distribution at 50/50. Hands high and bat upright. Path has some length, tends to get around ball and create pull tendency. Had a solid contact round in event. Would benefit from full finish and extension. Exit Velo 81 More in the tank Power: Would see Ethan as a Singles, Doubles type hitter. Arm: INF Velo 69 High ¾ release. Slight push. Defense: Good footwork to ball. Still developing as infielder. Fields ball middle of body, has full gather to throw. Good transition and momentum to throw. |
Ryan Muniz SS / 2B / Cherokee Trail, CO / 2020Positional Profile: SS/2B Body: 5’8” 175 Run: 7.04 60 Hit: RHH Wide base as stance, simple in line stride. Stays stacked on the backside. Hip/Hands create very good torso acceleration. Exit Velo 93. Very quick hands. Middle of the field approach. Demonstrated great contact in event round. Long extended one hand follow through. Power: Projectable, but would be limited to specific pitch/zone Arm: INF Velo 75. Small back side arc, some push. More in the arm with develoment Defense: Cuts the distance on groundballs. Shows good defensive actions. Gets to left side of ball and creates momentum to throw. Very good pivots and advanced on arm angles. |
Dylan Otto 1B / OF / Heritage , CO / 2021Positional Profile: 1B/OF Body: 6’2” 205 Run: 7.86 60 Hit: RHH Very wide stance with a quick hip high leg lift for stride. Slight tilt to front side at launch. Hands load with some front arm extension. Would benefit creating rear side acceleration. Path is downward with a high finish with hands. Follow through is shortened. Balance is good. Exit Velo 82 Power: Big strong hitter, needs to use the lower half to create torso velocity connection into hands. Continuing to develop! Arm: 1B Velo: 68 Good throwing position Quick arm High ¾ release. Defense: Fields ball in middle of body, creates momentum after fielding. Long movements Good pivot and redirection of footwork at 1B. |
Caden Potter 3B / SS / Valor Christian, CO / 2021Rankings StateRank: 33 / POS: 3
Positional Profile: 3B/SS Body: 6’1” 195 Run: 6.89 60 Hit: RHH In legs, Shoulder width stance. In line simple up/down stride to 50/50 weight distribution at launch. Hands have minimal movement and arm angles are maintained. Hands work great to ball, stay inside FB. Middle of the field approach and turns hard on FB in. Has some retraction in upper body on contact. Demonstrated bat speed. Exit Velo 88. See lots of potential Power: Strength is there. See Gap to Gap development with ability to turn 2B to 3B Good Speed. Arm: Inf Velo. 80 High ¾ release. Quick strong arm. Accurate and showed ability with different arm angles Defense: Very athletic movements. Quick feet to get around and through ball. Hands play through in fielding position. Gather to shuffle is clean. Project as 3B, could develop as MIF |
Maxwell Randis RHP / 1B / Lewis-Palmer, CO / 2022Positional Profile: RHP/1B Body: 5’10” 165 Run: 7.58 Hit: RHH Shoulder width base, minimal load with a up/down in line stride. Hands high, bat starts parallel to ground, load creates length from arm and bat head straight up. Path has slight lift. Solid contact in event round. Maxwell creates good balance, with extended follow through Exit Velo 76 Power: Has potential as he develops and syncs lower/upper half of swing. Arm: Quick arm, Quick backside arc with carry Defense: Great actions at 1B...plays ball out front of body. Good gather to throw and demonstrated good pivots on throws to 2B |
Spencer Rathbun RHP / 3B / Rock Canyon, CO / 2024Positional Profile: RHP/INF Body: 6’1” 185 Still developing Big 8th grader Run: 8.8 Hit: RHH Tall Shoulder width slightly open stance. Simple stride weight transfers to front. Hands high and create downward path with good sync of lower half Good timing, Demonstrates good bat speed, limited on strength at this time. Has a shortened follow-through. Exit Velo 78 Lots of Potential for a 2024 and projectable growth Power: Body says there is power potential, refining mechanics will help define Arm: INF Velo 68 Quick arm with high ¾ release. Long levers and adjusting to growing body is evident. Good athletic actions. Defense: Sits back on ball. Plays ball into body then creates momentum to throw. Corner INF is best option |
Trenton Rowan 1B / RHP / Flatirons Academy, CO / 2022Positional Profile: 1B/RHP Body: 6’2 180 Run: 7.15 60 Hit: LHH Open stance, with rhythm toe tap for stride. Stays in legs, stride is extended and in line. Hands are quiet, arm angles have some front arm extension at launch. Hands stay above ball with middle of the field approach. Finish has full extension with one hand release. Very aggressive hands. Exit Velo 87 Power: Still developing, the bat speed and aggression are great. Potential for Gap to Gap and occasionally get inside if the FB IN for power Arm: 1B Velo 78. Gets ball out/up short arc with clean finish. Quick arm action Defense: Great D actions as 1B. Hands out-front plays through ball.Good pivots. See potential as 3B/1B and would like to see continued development as MIF. Great Potential as Hitter and Infielder!! |
Will Sevier SS / C / Arapahoe, CO / 2021Rankings StateRank: 48 / POS: 6
Positional Profile: SS/C Body: 5’10” 185 Run: 7.35 Hit: RHH Open Shoulder width stance, high leg kick to in line stride. Highs high, minimal movement load. 50/50 weight distribution at launch. Creates strength with good rear side acceleration. Engages back knee early. Demonstrated bat speed. Some length to swing. Exit Velo: 90 Middle of the field approach, some tendency to pull Power: Would project as a 1B/2B hitter with max energy. Arm: Inf Velo: 83 Quick arm speed and great base and positioning of lower half. Defense: Drop step approach to ground balls creates momentum as he fields. Quick gather to release. Athlete with very good defensive actions and strong arm. SS/3B/2B are options. Good Follow Ranked Colorado Top 50. |
JT Shank 1B / 3B / Rock Canyon, CO / 2023Positional Profile: 1B/3B Body: 5’11” 165 Run: 7.49 60 Hit: LHH Wide Base as stance. Creates repeatable patterns with lower half with minimal movements. I believe this will help timing of FB/SL/CH. Has ability to hit for AVG. Hands stay above ball, have a live drive path, then finish high. Has some length at times, but has also demonstrated ability to get hands inside the FB IN. See mature hitter signs from a young hitter Exit Velo 83 Power: Added strength gives good projectibility of future power Arm: INF Velo 78 Arm Action is short and quick. Potential for strong OF arm Defense: Still developing 1B. Has good athleticism with potential for other positions. Gather and pivot throws are spot on. Will be top 2023 prospect and performer! |
Max Stanley RHP / 1B / Legend, CO / 2023Positional Profile: RHP/1B Body: 6’0” 145 Run: 7.74 60 Hit: LHH In Line balanced stance, uses sway and toe tap for load. Hands high and have minimal movement. Gets in good stacked position, some front arm length prior to swing Demonstrated quickness and line drivelines Very good rear side acceleration and one handed finish. Exit Velo 78 Power: Very good mechanical swing, lacks strength at this time. Can see him developing power in specific zones Arm: 1B Velo 79 Displays short and long arc on variety of throws Great accuracy. Defense: Good foot work to ball, good pivots and transitions into throws at 2B. Hands work through ground ball. Can benefit with continued development on fielding fundamentals. Would consider Max a top 2023 Prospect as pitcher, a big bonus if he continues to develop as hitter. |
Will Vasseur SS / RHP / Rocky Mountain, CO / 2022Positional Profile: SS/RHP Body: 6’2” 190 Run: 7.54 60 Hit: RHH Shoulder width base. Slow rhythmic load. Leg lift for in line stride. Torso load and hands have minimal movement. Hands have direct quick path to ball. Hands stay inside, EXCELLENT! Gets behind ball. Back knees engages creates very good rear side acceleration. Balanced finish with extended follow through. Exit Velo 88. Very mature approach with attacking hands. Impressive! Power: Projectable power, yes. Will’s balanced approach gives reason to believe he can hit FB/SL/CH for avg and progress to power Arm: Inf Velo 75 High ¾ release, compact throwing, clean follow through. Excellent feel for variable MIF throws Defense: 1st step ready. Gets to left of ball, good approach. Out front fielding, quick gather to throw. Shuffle to set feet. High Ceiling, Top Prospect in Colorado 2022 Class |
Jack Vitry SS / 2B / Mountain Vista, CO / 2020Rankings StateRank: 20 / POS: 4
Positional Profile: SS/2B Body: 6’1” 175 Run: 6.80 Hit: RHH Upright open stance. Leg lift with slight coil to in line stride. Hands have minimal movement to load, good position. Creates a lot of acceleration to and through ball with lots of rotation. Slightly off balance. Pull side tendency with attacking aggressive hands . Very good bat speed. Exit Velo 85 Power: Demonstrates good speed...would see Jack as a 2B’s hitter with ability to turn 2b into 3B. Gap to Gap potential Arm: Inf Velo 69 High ¾ release, showed great instincts for variable arm angles Defense: Very athletic movements. Good Set up and initial positioning to get around ball. Gather and momentum to throw is good and clean. Lots of potential at the collegiate level. Committed to Minot State. |
Keaton Walker 3B / 1B / Flatirons Academy, CO / 2022Positional Profile: 3B/1B Body: 6’0” 175 Run: 7.34 60 Hit: RHH Consistent mechanical approach. Keaton has an attacking, moving parts swing. Starts open, Leg kick with coil to open toe stride that remains slightly open. Hands load with knob to knee movement. Hands get to strong launch position. Path gets out and around ball with quickness and strength. Intention is to lift and pull hard. Finish is long and one handed. Exit Velo 91 Power: Strength and Quickness in the bat now. Arm: INF Velo 81 ¾ release with quick arm speed. Good arm strength. Defense: Athleticism shows in agility and footwork. Quick gather and momentum to 1B on throws. Needs continued development as MIF, but has great potential. As a 1st Baseball: Great actions around the back. Plus Pivots and throws with quickness Versatility across the diamond and can hit. |
Max Weiser RHP / SS / George Washington/Denver Academy of Torah, CO / 2021Positional Profile: RHP/SS Body: 6’3” 190 Run: 7.49 60 Hit: RHH Long Levers. Wide base, simple up/down small leg lift to stride. Arm angles have length in load. Weight slightly forward at launch. Demonstrated strength in swing Exit Velo 89 Path gets out/around slightly. Middle of the field approach. I see more in Max with potential to progress as a pitcher and possible hitter. Good Watch Him Grow List. Power: As Max refines his quickness in his swing, he could develop power Arm: Inf Velo 72 High ¾ release clean finish. Defense: Big rangy SS with good hands and movements. Can find an INF spot for this athleticism. Plays around and through ball with momentum. More in there. |
