Tennessee Class of 2024 Rankings: Official Release

PBR Tennessee Staff

After a busy summer full of events in the Volunteer State, the Class of 2024 Player Rankings is long overdue for an update as these players have just started their final year of their high school careers. There were a ton of new names who entered into the fold, as well as a number of others who continue to elevate their game, warranting plenty of movement and expansion (now 215 players) to the list. Most of the same names are still inside the Top-10 from the last update, but there's some shakeup within.

+ Jaxon Walker: 2024 OF that stands a 5-11 and 180 lb. from Lenoir City, TN who attends Loudon County HS. Strong and compact build that goes alongside very twitchy and fluid movement patterns. 6.43 in the sixty. Primary outfielder on defense, has current athletic ability, while offering plenty of projectability. Arm is accurate and will grow more into its upside. Left handed hitter at the plate. Inward toe tap load that connects with solid hip rotation. Really good bad speed and will hit for average in the gaps, while displaying power to the pull side. Lead off hitter/center field profile. Excellent student and going to Tennessee, as they had to wait out his commitment with a coaching change at Georgia.

+ Tomas Valincius: 2024 LHP/1B with a strong frame at 6 foot 2 and 205 pounds. Originally from Lockport, IL. Valincius attends boarding school at Baylor HS during the school year. Long limbs with broader shoulders and some present strength that is very well-proportioned. Higher upside as a left-handed pitcher where he has deception and tilt from a high ¾ arm slot. Was up to 92 mph this summer with the fastball that offers quality spin to go alongside a sweeping slider in the mid-high 70’s that should continue to develop. Also shows flashes of a cutter and works as a tandem. Changeup is a solid weapon to right-handed hitters as well. Full four pitch mix from a fluid athlete. Going to Virginia, where he should compete for immediate playing time.

+ Saxon Roberts: Standing at 6 foot 4 and 200 pounds. Roberts' frame presents a strong and sturdy build that shows plenty of projectable traits to go along with room to fill out at around 220. Touched 95 mph this summer. Also spun a plus slider in the low-80s at over 2,500 rpm. Both Fastball and slider are true plus potential pitches. Inconsistent at times throwing strikes but also missed a year of development with TJ. If he can put it together for his senior season on the bump, will have Auburn fighting to get him on campus.

+ Brodie Johnston: 2024 SS/3B with a 6 foot 2 and 200 pound frame from Ooltewah, TN. Large frame with strong, physical build that offers plenty of athletic ability with a 6.8 second 60 yard dash. Hits from wider-based stance with high hands and back elbow, generates good leverage out front, consistent plane with good bat speed and strength combo, while flashes big power pull-side and can drive it to all fields. Clocked up to 91 mph across the diamond with clean footwork and feel for the SS position. May slide over to third base at the next level due to adding size to hit for more power. Committed to Vanderbilt.

+ Gavin King: 6 foot 6 and 195 pounds, King offers an insane amount of upside on the mound. Slim and lanky with extremely long limbs that will create a ton of downward tilt and extension at release point. Up to 94 this summer with ability to attack the strike zone, while showing advanced feel for a power curve at upper 70’s that create a great shape and blend from his fastball. Has missed time on the mound in the past and is getting on the national scene later in the game but offers a lot of projection. Committed to South Carolina where he has a chance to be a long relief type of arm as a freshman, while turning into a weekend guy come sophomore year.
