Alabama Fall Games: Quick Hits

PBR Alabama Staff

MONTEVALLO, AL - The Alabama Fall Games was held on Sunday, August 27th at the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, AL. This was an open event that consisted of prospects in the 2024-2027 classes. These players went through a pro-style workout and took batting practice using Trackman to record hitting metrics. Pitchers were able to throw in simulated bullpens and were able to get numbers and metrics off of our Trackman unit, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, horizontal & vertical movement & much more. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing on Sunday.

Kicking off our post-event coverage for this event, we take a look back at some of the top performers and standouts from the event. Continuing over the course of the next week or so, we will release various leaderboards from the event then transition into releasing individual scouting reports for each player in attendance.

Porter Dykes C / RHP / Providence Christian, AL / 2024

Uncommitted. 6-foot-2, 185-pounds. Athletic build with tons of strength proportionally to the frame. We mentioned in our event preview article how Dykes was a do-it-all type prospect and he certainly showcased that two-way ability with strong showings on both sides of the ball at yesterday’s event. A bit of a relative unknown state-wide, the uncommitted senior is definitely one for college coaches to get acclimated with. Hitting from the right side of the plate, he’s got a short, compact stroke that delivers firm contact gap-to-gap within his approach; registered low-90 EV’s during his round of BP. Clocked an event-best 60 YD time of 6.74, and showcased solid catch-and-throw skills from the crouch with 1.88-2.00 pop times with a 76 mph C velocity. On the mound, the right-hander is equally as intriguing using a short, compact arm action from a H ¾ arm slot. He operated 84-85 mph (2400 rpm) and touched 85.6 mph with some occasional cut and ride to the offering, and tunneled a sharp slider at 74-77 mph off of it that registered spin rates north of 2500 rpm. Also flashed a solid changeup at 75-77 mph with good fade to it as a quality third offering to his repertoire. Really athletic two-way prospect that should not be on the board for too much longer.

Nick Peters C / Helena, AL / 2025

Uncommitted. 6-foot-0, 190-pounds. Tons of improvement made over the past year, especially physically with significant added strength to his build. Improved his statistics and metrics in nearly every category at yesterday’s event, and has continued to develop and mature into an intriguing prospect in the current junior class. Posted an impressive round of BP where he sent multiple balls over the wall in right field and registered a top EV at 94.1 mph (top EV last summer was 82.6 mph) and a max distance of 363 ft. (top max distance last summer was 282 ft.). Possesses plenty of whip and present bat speed with some lag to his barrel; gap-to-gap approach with average EV at 89.7 mph, an event-best. Has also cut down his pop times from 2.16-2.43 (71 mph C velo) to 1.97-2.04 (75 mph C velo) within one year, and showcased accuracy on throws to the second base bag. Very strong day from the uncommitted junior, and has really cemented himself as a quality backstop in the 2025 class in AL.

Charlie Taaffe SS / RHP / Vestavia Hills, AL / 2027

5-foot-10, 170-pounds. Well-developed, athletic frame for a prospect of his age with equally as impressive skills all-around to complement it. Eye-opening performance in his first PBR showcase at yesterday’s event and did nearly everything at a high level for a current freshman. Hitting from a tall, narrow stance from the right side, the infielder has a controlled leg kick for timing and creates significant extension out front to help hit for some power, as showcased during his round of BP. He swings it with good intent and can turn the barrel with bat speed; gets on-plane early with mostly upward path through contact. Profiles as a future infielder that will stick on the left side with above-average arm strength for his age at 81 mph and clean actions during the defensive workout. Good athlete that clocked a 7.09 60 YD, as well. An early name-to-know for the future in the current 2027 class in AL.

Fleming Hall RHP / SS / Trinity Presbyterian, AL / 2025

Auburn recruit. 6-foot-0, 185-pounds. Compact build with athleticism and tons of strength. Primary right-handed pitcher that is ranked No. 1 in the 2025 class in AL and was scheduled to throw in gameplay before it was rained out, but impressed with strong numbers across the board in the workout as a position player. Really loud round of BP hitting from the right side with multiple balls sent over the left field wall; posted a top EV at 94.3 mph and a max distance of 361 ft. Creates significant separation and incorporates compact strength well throughout his swing; looks to drive to pull-side. Athletic actions on the infield, where he worked up to 89 mph across the diamond, an event-best. Has been up to 92 mph on the mound with strike-throwing ability, and continues to cement himself as one of the top players in the 2025 class.

Jaxon Hay RHP / Benjamin Russell , AL / 2024

Uncommitted. 5-foot-10, 175-pounds. Smaller, athletic frame with a really quick arm that makes up for it. First PBR showcase he has attended, and was impressive during his bullpen displaying three solid pitches that were all located in the zone. Seems to be a bulldog, highly-competitive type pitcher that is on the attack. Works from a fast-paced delivery and wastes no time in between pitches; utilizes a compact arm swing with a high ¾ slot that produced a fastball that comfortably sat in the 87-89 mph range, and bumped 90.0 mph on his final pitch of the outing. Fastball will be really effective at the top of the zone allowing it to play up a tick with an average of 17 inches of induced vertical break. Rips a hard-biting curveball that ranged 76-77 mph and registered spin rates near 2400 pm; possesses 11-5 shape. Also mixed in a late-fading changeup at 80-81 mph that profiles well off the fastball. Quality uncommitted right-hander in the 2024 class in AL that may profile best as a back-end relief option.

Kevin Jasinski SS / RHP / Oak Mountain, AL / 2024

Uncommitted. 6-foot-2, 195-pounds. Mature, well-developed frame with mass throughout the build. Solid athlete that has played multiple sports at the high school level and has started for Oak Mountain for the past couple of years. Impressive right-handed hitter with low-pulse operation. Balanced and athletic throughout his right-handed swing and possesses good rhythm; gap-to-gap approach with back-spin line drives registering a top EV at 95.7 mph, second-best from the event. Reliable defender on the infield that could ultimately stick on the left side of the infield. Didn’t throw on the mound yesterday, but has been into the upper-80’s on the mound with competitive traits and solid secondaries this summer. A Top-75 prospect in the 2024 class in AL that is still on the market and will be a quality addition to a program at the next level.

Kepler Lively RHP / Chilton County, AL / 2024

Uncommitted. 6-foot-2, 150-pounds. Lean build with some athleticism; sizable projection still to come. Turned in one of the better showings on the mound yesterday mixing all three pitches in the zone with fairly easy intent. Gradual build up of pace to his delivery, and uses a typical H ¾ arm slot that generated a fastball that operated in the 82-84 mph range, and topped out at 84.5 mph. The offering possesses solid life throughout the zone, and registered an average of 18 inches of induced vertical break. Features two solid secondary offerings; curveball showcases sharp bite to it with 11-5 shape, and mixed in a late-fading changeup that mimicked the same actions as the fastball in the 77-78 mph range. Low-effort delivery with clean finish and likely more jumps to come in the future. Another intriguing uncommitted right-hander in the 2024 class in AL.

Reed Hartsfield OF / Oak Mountain, AL / 2024

Uncommitted. 5-foot-10, 170-pounds. Athletic, wiry frame with a bit more added strength in this viewing. Possesses solid tools across the board and ranked near the top of most statistical categories from yesterday’s event. Lived in the middle of the field during his round of BP with good balance throughout his right-handed swing; consistent upper-80 EV’s and a top EV at 91.5 mph. Controlled leg kick for timing trigger with some present bat speed and whip to barrel. Middle-of-the-field approach with consistent back-spin line drives during his round of BP. Athletic prospect that clocked one of the better 60 YD times from the event at 6.91 and showcased some arm strength from the outfield at 91 mph, an event-best. Continues to build off of prior showings at PBR showcases and is one to follow closely in the 2024 class in AL.

Sam Carter C / Shelby County, AL / 2024

Uncommitted. 5-foot-10, 185-pounds. Strong, twitchy athlete with strength to his lower-half and prototypical catcher build. Another prospect with carrying tools across the board and was near the top of most statistical categories from yesterday’s event. Hits from a slightly-crouched base from the right side and utilizes a short stride with minimal length to it for timing; turns the barrel with plenty of intent and looks to hammer balls to the pull-side within his approach. Possesses plenty of barrel speed and posted consistent upper-80 EV’s with a top EV at 93.1 mph. Stays short and connected throughout the swing. Showcased some of the best arm strength from the event with pop times ranging 1.88-1.95 mph with an 84 mph catcher velocity. Strong day from the uncommitted senior who continues to improve and develop.

Samuel Henegar 1B / Alexandria, AL / 2024

Uncommitted. 6-foot-2, 225-pounds. Physical corner infielder with middle-of-the-order traits and tons of strength to build. Looks to drive balls to the gap within his approach and posted one of the better rounds of BP at yesterday’s event. Utilizes physicality well throughout his right-handed swing and uses a mostly upward path through the zone to deliver firm contact to the ball; recorded the top EV from the event at 95.9 mph and multiple low-90 EV’s. Relaxed setup from the right side with simple load and stride before delivering a heavy barrel to the point of contact. Clean round of defense at first base where he recorded an 86 mph infield velocity, which was second-best of all infielders and led all first basemen during the workout. Enjoyed a strong spring and summer and will be one to follow in the 2024 class in AL.

Marcus Lawler SS / Donoho, AL / 2026

5-foot-8, 150-pounds. Wiry, high-waisted build with athleticism to his overall game that shows up in everything he does on the diamond. Younger prospect that swings the barrel much bigger than his frame would suggest with sneaky pull-side power during his round of BP at yesterday’s event. Possesses good rhythm throughout his right-handed swing and keeps weight on his back-side well; short, direct path to contact with consistent firm line drives gap-to-gap during his round. Has shown the ability in prior looks to find the barrel at a consistent rate both in-game and during a showcase setting. Smooth, athletic actions up the middle with some arm strength on throws to first base that worked up to 82 mph during the workout. Good young prospect in the 2026 class in AL that will only continue to get better as he develops and grows into his frame in the future.
