Red Deer Preseason ID - Players to Watch

Brady Turner
West Coast Director

The Prep Baseball Alberta staff open up the 2024 showcase season with the Red Deer Preseason ID in Red Deer, Alberta on Saturday, February 24th. This kicks off the spring with many more showcases on the horizon in the coming months.

Preseason ID's give players an opportunity to showcase themselves and update their profiles/metrics/video before heading South to open up the year with Spring Training. The event also serves as an identifier and qualifier for Prep Baseball Select events such as the Future Games (2025 + 2026/2027 teams), Jr. Future Games, West Coast Games, Best of the West, and more!

We're now only a couple days out from the Red Deer Preseason ID. Our staff begins to break it down below with three players to keep an eye on.

Red Deer Preseason ID - Players to Watch

Dayne Liske 2B / SS / Hope Christian School, AB / 2026

Liske has recently become a name to follow in Alberta’s 2026 class after a good showing in front of our staff in January at a Cardinals Development Program practice. The physical outfielder has present strength in his 5-foot-10, 190-pound frame. He uses a strong lower half to generate torque, but at the same time maintains controlled aggression. His current swing path allows him to elevate while also driving the ball with authority. This event should put Liske on the map as it’ll cement him as one of the more physical players in his class.

Tyson Kajmowicz RHP / 3B / Central Memorial High School, AB / 2026

The 2026 out of the Calgary Blues program is an intriguing arm to keep an eye on at the event. The 6-foot-4, 175-pound RHP oozes projection. He creates extension, getting down the mound well and has a quick arm to release out of a ¾ slot. The repertoire includes a fastball, slider and changeup, with the slider profiling as a swing & miss option with 2-plane break. Having Kajmowicz throw at the event in Red Deer will be something to watch for as we’ll learn more about his ability to spin and manipulate the ball via Trackman.

Lucas Mahoney RHP / Okotoks Dawgs Academy, AB / 2024

The Okotoks Dawgs product will be looking to make a name for himself at the Red Deer Preseason ID. The 2024/2025 reclass RHP has a projectable frame at 6-foot-3, 170-pounds. He gets down the mound well, with an over-the-top slot creating a steep approach angle on the fastball when down in the zone. The fastball was in the 81-82 mph range last summer, and since we haven’t seen Mahoney in awhile, the development and growth to an already projectable frame will be intriguing and something to keep an eye on.
