Uncommitted Spotlight: '24 C Xander Iniguez

The Uncommitted Spotlight Series continues as we wind down the '23 calendar and look towards the start of the '24 CIF High School baseball season by taking a look at some of the top uncommitted class of '24 athletes. This group of players is pulled directly from our '24 Rankings. They remain as the top players left on the board going into the start of their senior seasons.

We invite you to get to know them through their data-backed numbers collected at our events with our partnered companies. TrackMan, Blast Motion, Swift Performance, and Visual Edge provide comparable data to project and evaluate players. All of these systems come together to give a clear picture at what colleges will get when a players steps onto their campus.

Today, we put the spotlight on a '24 C Xander Iniguez out of a strong Eastlake HS program in the San Diego area. Smaller framed backstop at 5'9 165 lbs. who shows athleticism and mobility behind the plate. A smooth receiver with feel for presenting pitches while flashing the arm strength/accuracy to be a weapon in shutting down a running game (1.94 -2.02 pop times with 79 MPH C arm velo). Uses a small leg lift to get his load started and stays balanced in his move to hit. Once he gets to the land position Iniguez does a good job of using his lower half and hands in his swing which shows whip through the zone. His approach is geared to use the middle of the diamond with a line drive plane and shows 91.2 MPH max exit velocity which will play as doubles power and could grow into potential pullside HR power as he matures. A solid catch/throw backstop who can stick at the spot while adding lineup depth with a good bat Iniguez will be a good pickup in the '24 class at a premium spot.

Positional Profile: C/MINF
Body: 5-9, 160lbs. Smaller frame. Lean build. Average swift athletic tester. 10 yd - 1.77, 30 yd - 4.27, 60 yd - 7.59, VERT - 23.2, RSI - 2.46.
Defense: 1.94 - 2.02. Advanced catching ability. Framing/receiving stands out. Quiet body that works in many different crouches with a firm glove that steals strikes with minimal movement. Lateral quickness with blocking. Quick out the crouch as well on throwdowns while gaining good ground towards 2nd. 
Arm: RH. C - 75 mph. Short/quick AA. 4/5 accurate throws majority of which to 2B side of second base. 
Hit: RHH. Wide stance. Simple trigger. Smaller negative move and stride. Barrel works on an uphill path through. Lands onto a firm front side.  Trouble finding barrel during BP. Best contact was out front and in the air. Average bat/hand speed. Balanced throughout.
