Uncommitted Spotlight: '24 OF Dylan Westbrook

Steven Hardesty

The Uncommitted Spotlight Series continues as the calendar has turned over and the start of the '24 CIF High School baseball season is quickly approaching we are highlighting some of the top uncommitted class of '24 athletes. The players featured are pulled directly from our '24 Class Rankings and remain as the top players left on the board going into the start of their senior season.

We invite you to get to know them through the eyes of our PBR California staff of scouts and the data-backed numbers collected at our events with our partnered companies. TrackMan, Blast Motion, Swift Performance, and Visual Edge provide comparable data to project and evaluate players. All of these systems come together to give a clear picture at what colleges will get when a players steps onto their campus.

Today, we put the spotlight on NorCal '24 OF Dylan Westbrook from Oak Ridge HS. With an athletic frame at 6'1 175 lbs. that has some present strength, but room to add across the lower/upper body. Westbrook profiles as an offensive minded Corner OF prospect with a good LH bat showing feel to hit. Working from a slight leg lift with balance at landing Westbrook uses his quick hands (22.2 MPH hand speed) and upper body to maintain his direction and bat path. Shows consistent ability to generate hard contact (89.8 MPH avg exit velocity) while peaking at 95.3 max exit velocity. It's a controlled swing with gap doubles power, but the strength for pullside HR power presently and as his frame continues to mature plus polish to his approach he should show power to middle of the field. An average athlete with 7.19 60, 1.67 10 and 19 MPH max run speed and fringe above average arm strength (88 MPH OF arm velo) he could play RF at next level with LF as a good fit. I would be interested to see him try 2B/1B in the future. He will be carried by his offensive potential with some defensive versatility and being a LH hitter should be one college coaches are pursuing for a late addition to their '24 class.

Scouting Report

8/13/23

California State GamesWestbrook earned his way onto the prospect list due to his hitting prowess we saw at mulitple events this summer. His ability to drive the ball into the gaps for extra base hits showed up on a consistent basis and as a LHH, he should have attention on him from schools looking for a LH bat. The body is lean and wiry so there is strength he can add in the future which certainly could enhance what he already does well... HIT. Also showing up all summer was his intangibles. Showcases can often be odd environments for kids to be their genuine selves among kids they don't know, but Westbrook brings a dugout together QUICKLY with infectious enthusiasm and a personality others gravitate to. After a couple of days with his State Games teammates, it seemed as though they had been teammates all summer.
