After eight years of serving the Ohio baseball community through Prep Baseball, Jordan Chiero has accepted an opportunity to join the Wright State Raiders coaching staff.

And, with that change, we are excited to announce Kyle Weldon as the new Scouting Director for Prep Baseball Ohio.

Weldon, who previously coached and played at Miami of Ohio, is a well-known and respected figure in the Ohio baseball community.

“Kyle is an incredible man. His ability to both teach and evaluate baseball is elite. He is detail oriented and a veracious worker. Every opportunity he gets in his life will be very well earned,” noted Danny Hayden, previous head coach at Miami University.

Similarly, Jeff Opalewski, who previously served as the pitching coach at Miami, stated, “Kyle brings a tremendous level of passion, organization and professionalism to this role. I am certain he will continue to build on the impressive foundation that has already been established in Ohio and help PBR continue to ascend in both Ohio and nationally.”

After his time at Miami, Weldon returned to his roots with Alpha Baseball, where he is a co-owner of one of the most highly respected training facilities in the State of Ohio.

Ryan Galanie, a Moeller product and current prospect  in the White Sox organization stated, “Kyle is a dedicated baseball mind … His eye for baseball development and talent evaluation is unparalleled because of his perseverance in finding new ways to grow whether it be old school methods or new technology and ideas. The future of Ohio prep baseball is in good hands.”

Additionally, Weldon currently serves as a varsity assistant for one of the top programs in the state, Mason HS. During his time with Mason, he has helped the Comets to five league titles, three district titles, and one regional title while helping guide 34 players to college baseball and beyond.

Curt Bly, current head coach Mason HS, had this to say about Weldon: “Kyle brings a wealth of knowledge to this new opportunity that will serve the Ohio baseball community. His talent for evaluating and developing baseball talent is only surpassed by his passion for helping advance our great game and the athletes who play it.”

JD Heilmann, who previously served as the Prep Baseball Ohio Scouting Director and now works as the White Sox area scout affirmed, “Kyle is very well respected around the baseball community. He is very dedicated and works extremely hard on developing players and finding them a home.“

In his playing days (2008-2011) at NCAA Division 1 Miami University, Weldon posted a career .303/.357/.451 slash line, with 152 career hits, 17 home runs and 112 RBIs. Weldon was also named 1st Team All-MAC his senior year in 2011.

He played professionally shortly after his time at Miami, spending one season with the Lake Erie Crushers of the Frontier League.
