2018 FUTURE GAMES - DAY 2 RECAP

With position player workouts and the showcase format completed, games began Thursday with the Canadian squad taking on a strong team from right across the border from Michigan. The arms from Canada were the talk of the day, with three strong performances from three different provinces.

This is the first time that players from outside of Ontario have been represented at the Future Games, and the contribution from all three provinces (Ontario, Quebec, Alberta) were felt in the 7-3 win on day one of games here in Indianapolis.

Below we recap some of the highlights from the day:

Simon Lusignan RHP / 1B / De Mortagne, ON / 2020

Recap: The 6-foot-4 right-hander out of Quebec got the nod for Canada on day one, and the 2020 grad fired three scoreless innings, showing off a fastball that worked in the 87-90 range while backing that up with a fading changeup at 77-79 and a slider that is in development at 74-77, with a few really showing some late bite. Lusignan had to work in his three innings with runners on in every frame, received help from the defence on numerous occasions with a big throw from Owen Caissie in right-field to gun down a runner in the first inning that helped get Canada on a roll. Lusignan is still very projectable with his stuff and frame, and looks to be a high-end arm for the country and a no doubt power 5 arm.
