The 6A State Finals will be an all 6A South affair when Sheridan HS plays Benton High School Saturday, May 24th at Baum Stadium. Benton swept Sheridan during conference play, but throw that out the window in, a one game final. Here is a breakdown of each team.

Pitching

Benton HS: The Panthers have a tough right/left combination, in 2015 RHP/MIF Drew Harris and 2016 LHP Drew Dyer. These two pitchers have been dominate all season both with ERA’s under 1.00 with 101 strike outs in 91 innings pitched.

Sheridan HS: Tyler Allen anchors a staff with an ERA of 1.63. Allen is a 6-foot-4 230-pound right-hander that has plus pitch ability. He commands his fastball on both sides of the plate and locates 3 different off-speed pitches for strikes.

Hitting

Benton HS: The offense for Benton has been dynamic all season, averaging over 9 runs a game. They are led by 2016 C Brinson Williams and 2016 OF Colten Nix. Williams has hit .479 with 14 doubles, 6 home runs and 31 RBIs. Nix has hit .395 with 4 doubles, a triple, 2 home runs, 30 RBIs while scoring 33 runs. These two player anchor the middle of the lineup, but don’t be fooled this isn’t a two team offense, they have depth throughout the lineup.

Sheridan HS: Sheridan like Benton is a balanced offensive unit, with tough outs up and down the line up. 2015 Hunter Strong is the engine that makes them go but this group is consistent 1-9 hitting above .300 as group. As all Sheridan teams, they have a discipline approach and execute their offense at a high level.

Defense

Benton HS: Defensively they are sound, fielding at a .945 clip. 2016 C Brinson Williams is one of the top catchers in the state. The Panthers start two seniors in the middle infield (2015 MIF Colby Johnson and 2015 MIF/RHP Drew Harris) who are sound defenders. In the outfield 2016 OF Chase Nix roams centerfield with above average range.

Sheridan HS: Teams that make it to the state finals, generally play good defense. This group is no different fielding the baseball at a .951. Expect another great game between teams that pitch. Play defense, have deep offensive units and are well coached.
