2019 TOURNAMENT 12 PREVIEW: ORANGE ROSTER

With Tournament 12 approaching September 17 until the 21st, we take a look at each roster, with players from all across the country with short clips on who they are what they could become this upcoming week.

PBR will be on location for all 5 days, bringing you non-stop coverage of the Tournament along with player updates, statistics, video and more.

This year players are spread out through 6 teams, no longer separated by their territories and no longer will they begin with the 1-1 count. We look forward to seeing the talent all week but for now, get to meet your Orange roster representatives for T12.

Bryce Arnold SS / 2B / Blessed Trinity, ON / 2020

Report: Arnold, the second ranked position player in our 2020 class, put together a spectacular week in March at PBR Spring Training. On Scout Day, Arnold ran the top 60-yard dash at 6.75, had the best infield arm strength at 87 mph, and third highest exit velocity of 95 mph. His Scout Day performance translated to in-game where he hit for average and slugged all week long while playing solid defence and running well. A little undersized at 5-foot-9, 155-pounds but has the ability to impact games on both sides of the ball.

Cameron Byberg RHP / 3B / Sinclair, ON / 2021

Report: Byberg is a right-hander who pitched extremely well this year locating, changing speeds,  and attacking hitters right out the gate. Fastball worked in the 82-84 range and we’ve seen him up to 86 mph. Love the compete factor and his ability to move the ball around the zone. Recently re-classified into the 2021 class.

Justin Carinci SS / 2B / Pickering, ON / 2020

Report: 5-foot-6, 140-pound, athletic infielder, Carinci is a solid player who has had a strong spring so far. Defensively, Carinci is steady; he moves well, goes after balls with intent and covers ground. His glove actions are sound. His best tool is his bat, Carinci has a knack for making hard contact, and will do so to the middle-pull-side of the field. Due to quickness in his body movements, he generates bat speed, and has shown the ability to drive the ball as a result.

Alejandro Cazorla SS / RHP / Okotoks Dawgs Academy, AB / 2020

Report: Outfielder who moves well and hits from the right-side. We’ve seen Cazorla now for a couple years and the tools are there offensively as there is bat speed and looseness in the hands. Definite breakout candidate as Cazorla is looking to make a name for himself and create some separation amongst the outfielders.

Tanner Dawe RHP / AB Lucas, ON / 2020

Report: Dawe, a strong, medium-framed right-handed arm for the Great Lake Canadians was impressive in his start on Saturday. He came out of the gates firing, sitting 85-88 mph while maintaining his velocity throughout the outing. He pounded the strike zone out of a high ¾ slot with a compact but effortful delivery. Dawe mixed in a hard 75 mph slider with tight break which was really effective for him on this day. His changeup is still developing. The two-pitch combination will allow for Dawe to have success, especially in short stints at the next level.

Cedric Degrandpre 1B / RHP / Academie Baseball Canada, QC / 2020

Report: De Grandpre is an athletic-looking kid. He’s a sturdy 6-1, 192 pounds, physical and looks the part no matter where you put him on the field. On the mound he sat 87-88, touching 89, with a slider that has shape to it. One of the better uncommitted players in the country, De Grandpre is eye-catching. He isn’t very vocal, and you don’t hear him a lot, but when he’s in the spotlight, he’s a can’t-miss player.

Campbell Ellis LHP / 1B / Christ the King, ON / 2020

Report: The 6-foot-4 VCU commit,  Ellis has taken the next step in his development and added velocity to his fastball that works in the 83-85 range, Ellis mixes that with a tight overhand curveball with depth and 1/7 shape that he can throw at anytime in the count. Ability to get swings and misses, he works downhill with minimal effort and a lot more to come. Big time compete level, we are fans of Ellis

Jackson Fraser RHP / OF / Okotoks Dawgs Academy, AB / 2019

Report: Long and lean right-hander that works with clean actions in the back and can use his size to get on top of hitters and work downhill. Fraser works in the mid 80’s and has been in the 87-88 range before while there is feel for an overhand curveball that has depth and can generate swings and misses.

Sean Heppner SS / N/A, BC / 2020

Report: Seen Heppner twice now on the National stage and has impressed both times. Fastball sits comfortably in the 82-84 range and have seen him bump it up to 86 mph when he needs it. Tight 11/5 shaped breaking ball and a loose and lean body make Heppner very intriguing and projectable moving forward.

Aaron Marsh 2B / 3B / Nanaimo District, BC / 2020

Report: Left-handed hitting middle infielder who puts together quality at-bats and in a hard nosed gamer who makes plays. Runs well and can do the little things to help teams win, top of the order type guy who will use the whole field and produce runs offensively.

CJ Maury SS / 2B / Mayfield, ON / 2020

Report: A Wayne State commit, Maury a middle infielder from the Toronto Mets has a lot of upside. An average runner, Maury moves well in the infield possessing good footwork and fielding actions. On the offensive side, the 5-foot-11 175 pound Maury has a very simple, compact swing and possesses bat speed. The athletic middle infielder has many tools at his disposable and should be a good player to follow at Tournament 12.

RJ Mayor OF / N/A, ON / 2020

Report: Outfielder with arm strength and some bat speed from the right side where he will get the barrel out and show off some power from time to time. He moves well and can play all over the outfield, Mayor is a 2020 with strength gains still to come, big winter can put him in the driving seat and take the next step in his development.

Jonny McGill C / 3B / Burnett, BC / 2020

Report: McGill is a left-handed hitter out of the west coast that has good feel in the box, moves the barrel around the zone and can make life tough on opposing pitchers. The bat plays and he’ll use the whole field, hit behind in the count and still jump fastballs and get the barrel out when pitchers leave a mistake. Interesting bat that will not strike out much.

Theo Millas RHP / Alpha Secondary, BC / 2020

Report: A big LSU commit and the top-ranked Canadian in the class of 2020, Millas has all the tools to become an elite pitcher and comes with a 6-foot-4, 205-pound frame. Fastball works in the upper 80’s and the right-hander has been up to 91 mph. Has feel for his curve and change which make him so dangerous. Arm is loose, mechanics are clean and he controls his body well for a big man.

Connor O'Halloran LHP / OF / St. Martin, ON / 2020

Report: Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 185 pounds, O’Halloran is a left handed pitcher and is the top rated arm in Ontario. Working from a ¾ arm slot, O’Halloran has three pitches he can control. The fastball sits in the 85-87 mph range with arm-side run while the curveball gets good downward action at 73-76 mph. He is confident enough to throw his changeup (79-80 mph) with conviction at any time. In August, the Michigan commit threw a no hitter with 14 strikeouts against team Manitoba in the Canada Cup.

Caden Shapiro OF / LHP / Upper Canada College, ON / 2021

Report: One of the two-way players on the roster, Shapiro is a strong defensive outfielder who tracks balls well and can be a leader in patrolling the outfield. At the plate, it’s more contact oriented and will use the whole field. The swing is loose and when he gets timed up, Shapiro will find barrel with bat to ball skills making him an interesting two-way prospect who can contribute in multiple ways.

Noah Takacs RHP / OF / Oak Bay, BC / 2020

Report: Recent Sac State commit, Takacs moves well on the mound and does a great job of using all three pitches, keeping hitters off balance while throwing strikes and attacking right out the gate. The arm is clean and he pitches to all sides of the plate while being able to elevate with the heater when needed. It’s 84-86 and will touch 87, 88 here and there, but the velo will come and we love Takacs ability to pitch with three pitches.

Nicholas Thibodeau C / Notre Dame Catholic, ON / 2020

Report: Big strong right-handed hitting catcher with power from the right side, Thibodeau was a ProCase attendee this past year and fit right in, showcasing bat speed and loud contact, while there is arm strength and actions to work with that will allow to stay behind the plate moving forward. A definite 2020 who coaches need to be on with the tools he currently possesses.

Brody Alexandre
Report: Left-handed hitting third baseman out of Saskatchewan. Looks the part with big frame and big swing, struggled at Canada Cup but don’t give up on Alexandre. A few minor adjustments and we can see him rounding back into form. Don’t sleep or give up on Alexandre just yet.

David Barron
Report: Manitoba native that jumps out at you as its left on left, 6-foot-6 frame that has room to add strength. There is some feel at the plate and reports have him up to 83 mph on the mound without much training. A guy you do not want to sleep on.
