South Bay Week in Review

Russ Morgan

South Bay Los Angeles, CA. I took in three games last week along the South Bay. The week started at Palos Verdes HS. The next game to me to Serra HS to see a the loaded Cavaliers. The final game took me to Redondo to once again see one of the fastest climbing MLB Draft prospects in California.

The game at PV was dominated by pitching. Jared Karros went six innings giving up four hits and striking out six helping Mira Costa to the 5-1 win.  On the offensive side, Chaise Meidroth stood out once again.  At Serra, Jordan Brown was the main attraction with a handful of national scouts in attendance paying close attention to his every move.  However, it was Damone Hale that stole the show recording three hits.  For the nightcap at Redondo, Drew Dalquist was the draw and he did not disappoint by going four innings and striking out ten. In attendance for Dalquist’s performance were many area and national scouts with not an empty seat in sight.

Let’s dive into some of the players that stood out during these viewing.

Standout Performers

Redondo Beach HS

2019, RHP (University of Arizona) Drew Dalquist, 6-foot-2, 175-pounds, has long limbs, lean, athletic build, and wiry strength.  Dalquist went four innings in front of a packed house Saturday that included national crosscheckers in to see the righty. He did not disappoint.  With a handful of national scouts in attendance, he went four innings, striking out ten hitters.  His fastball was consistent 91-94, hitting 94 several times.  There was one reading that had Dalquist hitting 96 on the gun.  He was commanding his fastball which also showed movement. The Saugus hitters were no match for Dalquist. His curveball was 76-78 mph and was commanding it for a strike.  Dalquist has an excellent presence on the mound, is a great athlete and a fiery competitor. He is a scouts dream, working fast and keeping the game moving.
