New Episode LIVE now! At The Yard Podcast

CHABOT COLLEGE, HAYWARD (CA) - The NorCal Uncommitted Games took place at Chabot College on October 8th, featuring nearly 70 uncommitted players (17 2025 grads) hoping to soon change their commitment status. The event consisted of typical showcase style workout that included running the 60 (with 10 and 30 yard splits), a showcase defensive workout followed by batting evaluation, and then there were two 9-10 inning games, with each position player getting no fewer than three plate apperances and primary pitchers going two innings (max of 10 hitters).

Quick Hits is a recap of some of the top performances that initially stood out to us. It is not a ranking or top prospect list. Additional content including statistical leaders is available now on the California Scout Blog, and more content will continue to flow to that blog.

QUICK HITS

NorCal Uncommitted Games

Lamont Bufford Jr.

Class of 2025 / OF

Player Information

  • Graduating Class: 2025
  • Primary Position: OF
    Secondary Position: LHP
  • High School: Leroy Greene Academy
    State: CA
  • Summer Team: NorCal
  • Height: 5-8
    Weight: 153lbs
  • Bat/Throw: L/L

Quick Hits

Three measurable traditional tools showed up for the lithely built Bufford (5-foot-8, 152-lbs). He's a left-handed hitter, ran 6.86 in the 60 (3.79 30, 1.68 10), showed some arm strength that fits in CF or LF (82 mph) and though he's not the biggest young man, he hits the ball hard, with a max EV of 90.7. Most impressive about him was his bat to ball skills he showed in game action. The swing is short, he can get inside tough pitches on the inner half, he stays in the middle of the field, with the skills to wear down pitchers in long at-bats. Competitive spirit about him and a seriousness in going about his business.

John Bullock

Class of 2025 / 3B

Player Information

  • Graduating Class: 2025
  • Primary Position: 3B
    Secondary Position: SS
  • High School: Vintage
    State: CA
  • Summer Team: Napa Legion 19u
  • Height: 5-10
    Weight: 190lbs
  • Bat/Throw: L/R

Quick Hits

A left-hand hitting middle infielder is ALWAYS going to be of interest to college recruiters. Bullock is one to know in the 2025 class. Starting with the tool that ultimately is the most scutinized and questioned, the hit tool, Bullock (5-foot-10, 185-lbs) put on a nice show in his BP round, espeically when staying extended through the middle of the field, with a balanced two hand finish. During game play he pounded two balls in at-bats, with a triple and hard F8 out. Will need to develop more arm strength and quickness to have a chance to be considered a SS beyond high school (74 mph was his velo in the workout).

Logan Christianson

Class of 2025 / OF

Player Information

  • Graduating Class: 2025
  • Primary Position: OF
    Secondary Position: RHP
  • High School: Homestead
    State: CA
  • Summer Team: Brushback Baseball Club
  • Height: 6-0
    Weight: 190lbs
  • Bat/Throw: R/R

Quick Hits

The check-in process at a showcase provides us a first impression of a player, that being his physical size, proportions, and appearance. At 6-foot-0, 185-lbs, with a lean muscular body, Christianson immediately checked the 'body' box. The next phase of a showcase event, is just that, the showcase, where the players get to display their raw tools. Christianson also checked boxes relative to tools, with a 7.02 60-yard, 87 mph OF arm, and 94.7 max EV. Project all of those tools just a bit more before he graduates and he's in good shape. Game play provides a chance for the player to show usability of the abilities, which Christianson did with a double pounded into the RCF gap.

Ethan Johnson

Class of 2025 / C

Player Information

  • Graduating Class: 2025
  • Primary Position: C
    Secondary Position: OF
  • High School: The King's Academy
    State: CA
  • Summer Team: CCB
  • Height: 6-2
    Weight: 205lbs
  • Bat/Throw: L/R

Quick Hits

Since his first PBR event we've been impressed with the physical size, strength, tools, and LHH catcher profile that is Ethan Johnson. So much so that he was one of the handful of 2025s invited to the 2023 ProCase. He continues to work toward consistency of his raw tools showing up in competition and there were glimpses of that happening at the event. At 6-foot-2, 196-lbs his 7.37 60 is adequate, and he worked out as an OF and catcher (primary position). The OF velo was 86 mph and catching velo was 75, though we have seen higher readings. His pops were consistent, with 2.00-2.08 being the range of his best three throws. In BP he smashed a ball at 97.1 mph for his max EV and then in game play he took a ball out to centerfield for a home run.

Cameron Millar

Class of 2025 / RHP

Player Information

  • Graduating Class: 2025
  • Primary Position: RHP
    Secondary Position: 3B
  • High School: Alhambra
    State: CA
  • Summer Team: NorCal Black 2025
  • Height: 6-2
    Weight: 180lbs
  • Bat/Throw: R/R

Quick Hits

One of the breakout pitchers at the event, among ALL pitchers. Long lean streamlined build at 6-foot-2, 180-lbs, whippy quick arm, loose and fluid with athletic delivery. Profiles as a sinker/slider pitcher with FB 85-88 mph, max spin 2147. Given the slot and spin, that's the equation for a sinker profile. Can create scissor effect with slider that no doubt will be called a sweeper going forward (70-71 mph). Has CHG as well. There were three good Alhambra HS pitchers at the event, two seniors and Millar. He has the stuff to be their #1 in 2024, for a team that could very well be a sneaky good team and with their pitching, tough to beat in the playoffs.
