TAMPA—Jesuit and Armwood opened up their Saladino Tournament pool play by squaring off at Jesuit’s home field. Unfortunately for Armwood, Jesuit was clicking on all cylinders to win by a score of 10-0. The Tigers were led on the mound by 2017 RHP Drew Martin who went four innings with no runs and one hit allowed. At the plate 2015 OF and North Carolina signee Cole Gibbs went 2-2 with a triple and 2 RBI’s. 2015 OF and Duke Signee Kennie Taylor also added an RBI triple.

Jesuit first struck in the bottom of the second when Gibbs’ triple drove in 2017 INF/C Jake Jones who led off with a walk. Gibbs was later driven in by 2016 INF Steven Lugo who grounded out to second. After a scoreless top of the third, Jesuit added three more when 2015 INF Jacob Mocny singled, Taylor walked, and Mocny was driven in on a dropped fly by to right. With runners on second and third, Gibbs lined a single to right for his second RBI and 2016 INF/OF/RHP Nico Baldor then had an RBI single of his own to give Jesuit a 5-0 lead after three innings.

In the top of the fourth, the Hawks received their only hit which was off the bat of 2016 1B Eric Blanc, but they could not capitalize. Lugo led off the bottom half with a walk and stolen base and was driven in by a Nick Smith (2016 C) double. After a Nick Ortega (2016 OF) single and stolen bag, they were both driven in by Mocny who laced another single. Taylor then hit a triple off the wall to center that scored another run and gave Jesuit a 9-0 lead heading into the fifth.

The Hawks could not chip away in the top of the fifth and the Tigers sealed the win when 2016 OF/C Nick Perillo hit a one out double to right center and was then driven in by 2017 INF Alex Mocny.
