Top Stories for The Year 2014

PBR Michigan started up on April 10th, 2012 as seen here. Brent Alwine then took the reigns in Michigan to start 2014 and has been an integral part in helping PBR Michigan grow.

Now that Michigan is fully entrenched as a top PBR state, we look to continue our climb while continuing to provide top notch baseball coverage in Michigan.

Brent, PBR Michigan Director of Scouting, along with Dylan Hefflinger, Michigan Editor in Chief/Regional Scout take a look back at the year in review and put together a list of the top stories for 2014.

To start off the the list we looked at a pitcher who may not have been able to finish his high school career how he had hoped, but was still a perfect 35-0 on the mound.

After that we looked at how Bay City Western made history in 2014, then one of the top prospects in the nation, Nick Plummer.

Then we took a look at University Ligget winning their third title in four years.

Now we take a look at Brent Alwine taking over as Scouting Director.

A rundown of the stories: Note: We will be conducting a Twitter contest to vote on the top stories for 2014 once the stories have been posted.

Brent Alwine Takes Over As Scouting Director

Brent Alwine came on board with PBR Michigan in late January to take over the vacate spot left by Mike Penn.

"Brent hit the ground running and hasn't looked back," stated Chris Valentine, Executive Director. "Mike Penn laid a great foundation for PBR Michigan, and Brent continues to find ways to build upon and improve our ability to help amateur players across the great state of Michigan."

Brent graduated from IPFW in 2006 and was a four-year starter for the Mastodons. Brent received a degree from Purdue University in Organizational Leadership and Supervision and a master's degree in Liberal Studies from Indiana University in 2009.

Brent resides in Okemos with his wife Brandi and two sons Beckett and Bode.

Brent is no stranger to baseball or baseball in the state of Michigan as he spent six years coaching college baseball.

From 2006-2008, he served as an assistant coach of his alma mater at IPFW.

In July of 2008, Brent accepted a position at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. He would spend two seasons 2009 and 2010 at Creighton before accepting the recruiting coordinator position at Western Michigan University where he would spend two years, 2011 and 2012.

In his six years of coaching, Brent has coached over 18 players who have signed professional contracts, most notably Darin Ruf (Creighton) who has spent the last three seasons in the Major Leagues for the Philadelphia Phillies.

"As a former college coach, he understands the role that PBR Michigan can play for countless players at all levels of play," Valentine said.

Alwine also serves as an associate scout for the Texas Rangers.

Brent is building a great staff in Michigan and looks to make PBR Michigan one of the top states for Prep Baseball Report. Brent is looking to build on the success that other states have been having across the PBR landscape and feels the state of Michigan is on the way up with regards to baseball recruiting.

However without the players, parents, coaches, and high schools none of this would be possible and all of us at Prep Baseball Report would like to thank them for all that they do. We also look to continue to build our relationships with each and wish all the players and teams good luck in the upcoming spring season.
