The 2024 WIAA 1A State Tournament begins with regional action this Saturday, May 18th. 16 teams will compete at 4 various 'regional' sites in a single elimination bracket that will ultimately send 4 teams to Bellingham, WA for the Semi-Finals and Finals at Joe Martin stadium. 

Semi-Final actions begins on Friday, May 24th with the winners advancing to play for the State Championship on Saturday, May 25th.

1A REGIONALS

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

Perennial powerhouse Bellevue Christian on 15-game win streak
Top seeded Bellevue Christian comes into the 2024 state tournament as the clear team to beat after an impressive 20-2 regular season. The Vikings have been playing their best baseball as of late, led by their potent offense and depth on the mound. ‘25 OF/RHP Cash Erdman (Washington State commit) leads the way on both sides of the ball and could well be one of the most valuable players in this tournament. ‘24 RHP Carter Calkin and ‘27 RHP Dayton Rogers should get important innings on the mound as well. Offensively, the Viking’s lineup is headed by ‘25 C Luke Evenson (South Dakota State commit). Erdman and ‘24 OF Brock Ryan fortify the top of the lineup. ‘25 SS/RHP Mason Hill will be another key piece for Bellevue Christian both at the plate and pitching in relief. The #1 seed Vikings should prove to be another tough out in state this season and look to recapture their state title last won in 2022. 

Cedar Park Christian led by top-end talent
The #2 seed in this year’s state playoffs, the Eagles are led by standout ‘24 SS/RHP Adam Haight (Oregon State commit), whose stock has continued to rise and generated MLB draft buzz this spring. Haight, the 2024 ESC Player of the Year, is a frightening offensive threat and can run his fastball into the low 90’s on the mound. The #3 ranked prospect in the ‘24 class is poised to have a dominant performance in this year’s state playoffs. Cedar Park Christian boasts other talent at the top of the lineup with ‘24 INF Lleyton Daily (Central Washington commit) and ‘26 OF Lyal Viers. The Eagles will also look to ‘24 RHP Keller Standish (Everett CC commit) to continue to be their main horse on the mound. Cedar Park will look to improve upon their 3rd place finish in last year’s state playoffs and make a deep run in 2024.

Seton Catholic looks to continue their hot streak 
The #3 seed Cougars are winners of 13 straight, including victories over several state-bound teams. Headlined by a large group of sophomore and junior talent, Seton Catholic looks well positioned to make a run toward the semi-finals in Bellingham. ‘26 RHP Kolton Gesser and ‘25 RHP Jack Williams have provided the bulk of the innings on the mound this season and should continue to do so in state. ‘25 Thomas Clute and ‘26 Teddy Wieczorek led the way offensively and will be staples at the top of the lineup. ‘26 Case Iverson has been a standout offensive performer, while ‘25 Luca Peterson offers versatility and had a strong offensive season as well. 

Naches Valley leans on experienced core players
Heading to state with a 19-5 record, #4 seed Naches Valley looks to have a similar run to their second place state finish in 2023. The Cougars are built offensively by a trio of standout bats, ‘25 INF Simon Thomson, ‘24 INF Luke Jenkins, and ‘24 OF Jaden Zimmerman. Jenkins has also pitched the most innings on the team, followed closely behind by ‘24 Andrew Boyer and ‘24 Jasiah Van Doren. The trio has dominated on the mound, combining for just under a 2 earned run average. Look for the Cougars to lean on their veteran players to make another run deep into this year’s state tournament.

Tenino led by a dynamic duo
Tenino finished with a 17-6 record and will head to state playoffs as the five seed. The Beavers are spearheaded at the top of the lineup with ‘25 MIF Will Feltus, who has had an impressive spring offensively, leading the team in hitting. ‘24 RHP/INF Kellan Knox (Oregon Commit) should be a dominant force on the mound after posting over 10 K/9 during the regular season. Knox, our #10 ranked prospect for the ‘24 class, could be a difference maker in this tournament. Apart from these two standouts, Tenino will look for production from ‘25 C Austin Gonia and ‘24 INF Cody Strawn, who have had big seasons offensively as well. Look for the Beavers to surprise some and make some noise in this year’s state playoffs.
