2024 Team Preview: Sealy Tigers

Prep Baseball Texas Staff

The 2024 Texas high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Texas.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Austin at the UIL State Tournament in June, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 30 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 30 rankings.

TEAM OUTLOOK

Coach Teague Kowalski and the Sealy Tigers will have a young squad in 2024. The Tigers lost a lot of production off of the 2023 team that finished as 4A Area Finalists, opening the door for a lot of fresh faces within the program to take the next step in their high school careers.

Sealy will rely on a trio of uncommitted Seniors who return from the 2023 team in 1B Rylan Reichardt, 3B/RHP Zachary Barrientos, and LHP/OF Gunnar Sanchez. Potentially the top player returning for the Tigers in 2024 will be Barrientos, who they will need to be a factor on both the mound and at the hot corner this season. The 2024 Tigers will also include four other uncommitted Seniors who should have big roles this year in OF/INF Ronnie Thrasher, INF/OF David Kainer, INF Maurice Wigfall, and RHP/OF Kash Deaton.

Looking at the rest of the roster, an uncommitted Junior that the Tigers are excited about is RHP/INF Ty Smitley, who should be a two-way name to keep an eye on this spring. Three other Juniors to know in 2024 are C/INF Hoyt Peck (uncommitted), LHP/OF Landen Sodolak (uncommitted), and INF/RHP Kallan Hendry (uncommitted).

The Tigers will have some fresh faces in 2024 as mentioned previously, those newcomers include three right-handed arms in Hagen Anderson (2026), Hale Demaree (2026), and Jackson Sodolak (2026). A potential instant impact Freshman to keep an eye out for is 2027 OF Romeo Castillo, who hopes to appear on varsity at some point this season.

With young talent scattered across the roster supplemented by valuable returning upperclassmen, Sealy should be a fun team to follow in the 4A class throughout 2024 and beyond as they build for the future.
