2019 Tournament 12: Uncommitted, Undersized, Big Value

Good things can come in small packages, and with the list below, that is absolutely the truth. These guys may not get the looks because they are undersized and don’t jump off to recruiters or scouts immediately, but once they get between the lines, their games talk big and were some of the top performers from the past week at Tournament 12.

All uncommitted, you don’t want to sleep on these guys as you look to build your 2020 and 2021 recruiting classes.

Brando Leroux SS / 2B / St Augustine, ON / 2021

Report: Leroux is a 2021 infielder with silky smooth hands in the infield that can pick it with the best of them. He’s confident, can go side to side and make plays on the run from different arm slots. At the plate, he’s a switch hitter with more feel, strength from the right side and showed a little more pop than we expected to see during T12 scout day. He is a guy who is fun to watch, will give you stellar defense up the middle and be a top of the order bat with line drive, gap to gap approach.

Yosuke Fujie SS / C / Yale, BC / 2020

Report: Fujie is a switch hitting 2020 grad from BC that will play behind the dish and can also handle middle of the diamond on the infield. There is quickness in the hands offensively and he will spray the ball across the diamond with hard contact and ability to stay on off-speed stuff. He’s athletic with soft hands and enough arm strength to stay behind the plate while he profiles more of a second baseman with offensive upside at the next level.

Luis Pimentel Guerrero OF / SS / Corpus Christi, ON / 2022

Report: Guerrero is a nationally ranked 2020 grad who is a switch hitter with feel and looseness in the box with a quick trigger and bat speed to contact. Lots of feel and moxy in the box, it is similar from both sides of the plate and does not get overmatched with velocity while he seems to be able to slow the game down at times. He throws it from the outfield with velo and carry with clean arm action. Exciting young hitter who is going to be an early commit.

Justin Carinci SS / 2B / Pickering, ON / 2020

Report: Carinci, a very toolsy infielder who is similar to big brother who went to Alabama and now finds himself at Kansas State. He ran a 6.87 this past week and the swing is quick and compact with line drive approach but will also catch people off guard with the pop he will display in game. Moves well at shortstop and that’s where he is most comfortable. Has also seen time in centre-field this fall where his athleticism has allowed him to fit right in without a ton of reps. Uncommitted 2020 with winning intangibles.

Aaron Marsh 2B / 3B / Nanaimo District, BC / 2020

Report: Really liked Marsh at T12, the bat plays from the left-side and the swing is short, with rhythm and timing throughout the load while staying balanced through contact. He stays in on tough pitches and liked the way he fought through his at-bats. The actions and tools play on the dirt and Marsh is going to be a nice get for the right college moving forward.

Willie Camacho Soto 3B / Coquitlam Reds, BC / 2020

Report: Soto was always in the middle of something it seemed like, and the last two events we’ve seen him at he has been an offensive menace. It’s scrappy at-bats from the right side with lots of hard contact, using the whole field and playing with an edge that puts pressure on the defense as he gets out the box real well and looks for that extra bag. There is not much swing and miss and the infielder has spark plug written all over him. One of my favourites to watch play the game this summer.

Vic Domingo RHP / 3B / Saint Thomas More Collegiate, BC / 2020

Report: Domingo was dominant right from the get-go, and the velocity was up from the last time we saw him in Regina. Domingo sat in the 87-88 range and hit 89 mph multiple times during his two appearances on the week. It’s an up-tempo delivery from ¾ slot, the curveball had 11/5 shape with late action that generated plenty of swings and misses. Domingo is a 2020 right-hander who is currently uncommitted, but can’t see that happening for too much longer.
