Two teams that have become rivals lately due to the 4A playoff format matched up yet again with a lot of stakes on the line. Winner would get 7 days off to rest and regroup their pitching staffs while the loser would only get 5 days off and be in the losers bracket having to win 3 games to play for an upperstate championship. Catawba Ridge would send Dhein out to the mound while Laurens would counter with Goss, two highly respected arms throughout the state. Each team would go scoreless through the first two innings while scattering some hits. Catawba Ridge would strike first in the 3rd on Noonan RBI single to take an early 1-0 lead. Laurens in the 3rd inning would get the 1st two runners on and then Nabors would lay down a bunt that was then thrown into RF that scored 2 runs to give Laurens in the 2-1 lead headed to the 4th. In the 4th a leadoff double from Coker and a walk would put pressure on the copperheads. Laurens would then lay down a squeeze to score one and a sac fly would get another run in to give them the 4-1 lead. Laurens would keep Catawba Ridge off the scoreboard until the 7th inning when it became very interesting. Catawba Ridge would get the first two runners on and then Noonan singled again to drive a run in making it 4-2. With runners on 1st and 3rd, the next hitter would pop out before Wilson hit a Sac fly to make it 4-3. Catawba Ridge would then get the next runner on and have runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs. Ledford would come in and pitch for Laurens getting a strikeout to end the game and give Laurens the big win to advance to Friday and be the drivers seat, having to be beat twice.
