No. 2 O'Fallon 3 Alton 1 MORE
Leadoff man Josh Gibson energized O'Fallon's offense by going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. From the two-hole, Nathan Martin went 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs, and he walked twice. After those two, only Jacob Dreyer had a hit to his name. Brayden Arnold started for the Panthers and allowed one run (unearned) on five hits, three walks, and he struck out six in 4.2 innings. Adam Drewry recorded the final seven outs and did so without allowing a baserunner, striking out three in the process. O'Fallon's enjoying a seven-game win streak and are now 21-1-1 in 2018.
Crete-Monee 1 No. 3 Lincoln-Way East 9 MORE
After a scoreless 1st, the Griffins scored runs in the following five innings to cruise to their 16th win of the spring (16-2). Zach Jurgens went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs to power the offense. Brandon Petkoff and Joey Selvaggio backed him up with two hits each and combined for three RBIs.
No. 5 St. Laurence 16 Cicero Morton 3 MORE
St. Laurence's middle-of-the-order sluggers, Jake Vera and Matt McCormick, were responsible for nine of the Vikings' 16 runs. Both boppers had three hits -- Vera doubled twice and McCormick tripled twice. Vera drove in five runs on the day while McCormick tallied four RBIs. The win was St. Laurence's fourth in a row, pushing them to an 18-3 record on the spring.
No. 6 Plainfield North 18 Minooka 2 MORE
Three different Plainfield North batters notched three-hit days in their team's big win over Minooka. Greg Budig, Gavin Doyle, and Sean Tillmon were the ones responsible leading the offense. Budig doubled, Tillmon tripled, and Doyle homered in the win. Doyle and Tillmon each drove in three runs. Garret Cook also tallied three RBIs. North's 11-4 now after Wednesday's victory.
Bolingbrook 0 No. 7 Sandburg 7 MORE
Sandburg starter Ryan Leland was efficient in Wednesday's tilt with Bolingbrook. Having just defeated the Raiders on Monday, Leland helped Sandburg to an eighth-straight victory. He allowed four hits, one walk, and struck out three in six innings of work. Jason Lenczycki was 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Branden Comia led the Eagles with two RBIs. Seth Masters also slugged a solo homer in the win. The Eagles are 14-3 now after the win.
Batavia 1 No. 9 St. Charles North 6 MORE
Make that 10 straight wins for the North Stars. St. Charles earned its 12th win of the year (12-1) on Wednesday with yet another team effort with Justin Dunne in the middle of it. Dunne went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, to lead the team. Steve Hamer and Erik Larson both added two hits of their own. Nick Skurka threw six shutout innings and allowed just two hits, two walks, and struck out eight in the win.
No. 10 Andrew 0 Lincoln-Way Central 7 MORE
The Knights rebounded from Monday's loss to the Thunderbolts with the help of starter Andrew Hancock, who threw a complete game shutout. Hancock's handiwork snapped a nine-game win streak of Andrew's. He threw seven innings and allowed just two hits, three walks, and struck out seven. Kyle Labedz led Central with three RBIs. Dylan Post and Aaron Anderson each tallied two hits for the Knights and drove in a run. Andrew trips to 15-3 after the loss while Central improves to 11-6 this spring.
Stevenson 2 No. 11 Libertyville 14 MORE
Libertyville swept Stevenson in their three-game series and have now won 12 straight games. The Wildcats scored five runs in the 1st and 2nd innings; with the bases loaded and two away, Libertyville smacked three straight hits, capped by Andrew Kim's bases clearing, three-run triple. Benjamin Arnold led off their next turn at the plate with a homer to left. Luke Plunkett bopped a two-run double to left, and Kim scored another run on an RBI groundout. The win streak has shoved Libertyville all the way to a 16-3 record on the spring.
No. 25 Lockport 0 No. 15 Providence Catholic 1 MORE
The Porters, after a 10-1 start, have no dropped five of their last six games, while the Celtics have won four of their last five to improve to 11-7 this season. Wednesday's match-up was a nail-biter though and Lockport starter Tommy Louch was on the unfortunate side of things. He threw six innings and allowed one run on four hits, four walks, and he struck out five. Providence Catholic scored that run in the 4th after lead-off single, sacrifice bunt, wild pitch, and groundout scored Brennan Geers. As for the Celtics, Bryce Barnett was typically lights-out. He struck out nine of the 17 batters he faced over the course of five innings and allowed only one hit and one walk. Ryan Manikowski got in a little hot water when Lockport got the game-tying run to second, but he quickly recorded the final two outs of the game to seal the deal.
