2024 Team Preview: Converse High School

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

The 2024 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state.  Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Louisiana.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Sulphur, LA, home of the LHSAA State Championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality.  We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Louisiana.  We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, followed by our Power 25 Rankings release, and our popular Game of the Week segment.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the bayou state.  Each week, we will be releasing our players of the week, updating our Power 25 Rankings, and many more pieces of content.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook

Head Coach Lamar Boudreaux has built quite the program in Converse, LA, as the team has enjoyed back to back 20 plus win seasons.  Last year's Wildcats team finished the year with a 22-6  overall record and reached the quarterfinal round of the LHSAA Non-Select D-V playoffs, before losing a close 5-3 game to Weston.  Coach Boudreaux likes the grit of this year's team and feels that they are a hard-working bunch who are all extremely dedicated.  They'll have to replace quite a bit from last year's squad, but the good news for Wildcat fans is that they return one of their stars of a season ago, in senior Brooks Boudreaux.  The 5'9" 160 lbs. shortstop was an All-Region and All-State selection in 2023 and also won the District MVP award, after hitting .490 with 48 hits, both of which were best on the entire team.  This year's Converse team may encounter some early season struggles with a bunch of new faces, but we fully expect them to be playing at their best in the month of April, as they look to avenge their quarterfinal loss of a year ago.
