MD/DE 2025 Rankings Update: Risers

Prep Baseball released the Class of 2024 Rankings update prior to the Thanksgiving holiday, and we now turn our attention to the class of 2025. Prior to the release of the full 175 players in this update, our staff takes a look at five players that make a considerable jump up the ranks.

   

Risers

Will Rhine SS / 2B / John Carroll, MD / 2025

Following a recent de-commitment from the University of Maryland, Will Rhine now finds himself as arguably the top and most sought after uncommitted position player in the state, leading to a rise inside the top ten of this latest rankings update. The strength and body maturation continues to increase, now standing at an imposing 6-foot-3, 195 pounds. It's one of the more well-rounded skill sets, with a mixture of quality bat to ball skills and untapped power potential at the dish, while showcasing a consistent ability to pick it up the middle with the glove. As the body continues to fill out, there's no question that the whole field, line drive approach will prosper into gap-to-gap power to the alleys. 

Parker Sweeney OF / LHP / St. Maria Goretti, MD / 2025

Following a slight injury in the backend of the summer, the Virginia Tech commit looks stronger than ever heading into the winter months. The two-way ability is still prevalent, showcasing the ability to run the fastball into the upper 80's with a wipeout breaking ball and one of the better late fading changeups in the state. With an uptick in velo this winter/spring, look for Sweeney to be one of the more prominent arms to watch across the state. At the dish, it's a balanced operation from the left side with controlled aggression and strong line drive tendencies to both gaps and alleys. The hands are fluid and quick, producing plenty of bat speed through with an approach that remains constant and controlled. An impact player on both sides that projects north heading into 2024. 

Travis Peitz SS / RHP / Calvert Hall, MD / 2025

One of the more standout summer and fall circuits led to Peitz landing a commitment to George Washington University, and our staff was able to get plenty of eyes on the projectable shortstop in late August and early September. Possessing a lean, 6-foot-3, 180 pound frame, there's still plenty to dream on in the body, and an increase in muscle mass and strength bodes well for the future of the Calvert Hall product. It's a smooth, controlled operation at the dish with a heavy barrel and loud strength portrayed to the middle of the field, showcasing an occasional ability to backspin line drives to both gaps and alleys. Untapped power potential with above average awareness for the barrel, along with one of the more fluid gloves and arm strength in the state should be something to be excited for heading into the winter months.  

Will Haacke OF / Calvert Hall, MD / 2025

After a substantial rise in our update in late August, Haacke sees another jump in the rankings this week. The uncommitted outfielder continues to mold his game in all facets and has certainly made strides into becoming one of the more sought after uncommitted position players in the class. The tools jump off the board, notching a 6.84 60-yard, 93.7 mph Exit Velocity and a 90 mph outfield velocity at the US Elite Scout Day in late August, all leading to a standout performance at the PBR Virginia Fall Championships in mid-September. The impact on both sides of the ball is evident, showcasing the ability to not only show off the arm strength from the outfield, but the ability to run it down in the alleys is special. The strength at the dish continues to prosper and has transformed into a legit power threat from the right side. As the approach continues to develop at the dish and the speed remains contant (or increases), this is a can't miss position player across the Old Line State to lay eyes on in 2024.

Cameron Vachon C / 1B / Tuscarora , MD / 2025

Circle this name. A standout performance at the PBP Scout Day earlier this month has led to the uncommitted backstop to quickly rise up the ranks. Physicality and sneaky athleticism in the 6-foot-2, 205 pound frame allows for the strength to be the forefront of Vachon's game, showcasing some of the louder contact our staff witnessed this Fall. It's a middle of the field approach with the ability to create consistent lift to the pull side, producing loud contact with ease. The smoothness of the operation may be the most impressive aspect and certainly bodes well for a high contact rate.
