Detroit Central Catholic AT No. 2 Brother Rice

Matt Ruppenthal, RHP, Brother Rice HS, 2014

The 6'4 235 pound Vanderbilt commit threw five strong innings of scoreless baseball. Ruppenthal came out in the first inning with his fastball at 88-92, he hit 92 once and sat at 88-90 over the next four innings. His fastball can over power hitters in high school, but will have to clean up on locating it a touch better at the next level. He missed arm side with his fastball more then locating it on the outer half. His slider was 78-81, with command and out pitch ability. He only threw his change eight times in the game and it was 76-79. He left it up a few times which resulted in hits, when it is down it complements his slider very well. Ruppenthal has a nice following of pro scouts when he pitches, he is the definition of a power arm and could garner serious interest in the June draft,
