NC: Rd 1 Upset in Central 3A Conference

PBR was on hand for the 1st round game of the Central 3A Conference Tournament between the No. 2 seed Cedar Ridge Wolves and the No. 7 seed Williams Bulldogs.  The Bulldogs jumped out early and limited Cedar Ridge to just 6 hits in securing the upset and moving to round two.

In the top of the 1st, Gage Strickland and Coleman Mahan each knocked in a run to give Williams a 2-0 lead.  Cedar Ridge would answer in their half of the first when Efrain Morales knocked an RBI triple, but he was stranded at 3B.

The Bulldogs would get some breathing room in the 4th.  A leadoff triple from Aiden Pulliam was followed by a Angel Mora single.  Mora would score on a 2 out single from Dan Mahan.  Williams would increase their lead in the 5th with 2 more runs, keyed by a 2 RBI single from Trace Hicks.  

Leading 6-1, two Williams’ arms nailed down the win.  Ethan George worked 6 strong innings, giving up 1 earned run while striking out 7.  Hicks would throw the 7th, striking out 2.

With the win, Williams will move to the 2nd round of the Central 3A Conference and play Northwood on Tuesday night.  Williams is now 10-12 overall.  Cedar Ridge fell to 13-10 and will await their fate as the post-season brackets are announced this weekend.
